You guys all have the true 'hotest babes'. The 'Sharipova' of guns.

Have admired them more than anything since first watching the show "Combat" (the late Vic Morrow) back in '65 etc.

Here is my CMP Service Grade Springfield straight out of the box. I had not even run a rag over it when these shots were taken. It's from 1955 and shoots like a dream.

My 1943 Springfield. I don't know much about 'em, this might be a mutt for all I know. I know it has a new barrel, and it shoots great. Bought it for $700 from a local feller who needed to raise some cash.

I apologize for not knowing, but were any/many .308 caliber M1 Garand rifles produced in the Springfield Armory and used in combat in WWII?

I ask because someone told me all (or most all) of that era, origin, and issue were 30-06.

Thanks,
Les

I am pretty sure all the original Garands were 30-06. I don't think .308 was even around in WW II.

Mine was a 30-06 with a worn out bbl no stock and it needed work. It was fitted with a new 308 bbl with match chamber, NM front sight, New Wenig laminated stock, trigger job as well as a schuster valve. The rifle was refinished too. Otherwise the parts are all correct SA from 1943, milled trigger group and lock bar rear sight.

Thanks for clarifying guys. And I wasn't taking you to task jpwilly... I just didn't know if a .308 version M1 ever came out of the Springfield Armory for WWII issue.
