Well, my D-model spacer came in the mail today; so now my Beretta 92FS can (and is) carried Cocked and Locked.
:D

 I put one in my Vertec and I believe Skunky did too. I like having that option even though there are people that don't like that on a Beretta.

This is the first I've heard of it. How extensively has it been tested? Where can I read more about it/order it?

Basically, all you're doing is replacing the de-cocking arm in the 92FS series with the spacer from the 92D series. The part number is 99005, and it costs about $1.12 (or something similar ... less than $2) if you order it from Beretta USA. It's incredibly simple, and to quote cool9mm (when he told me how to do it):
Putting the spacer in is extremely easy. You just take the slide off first. You'll see two little arms in front of the hammer, one facing forward toward the barrel and one facing backward toward the hammer. Tap out the pin holding the two arms in place. Remove the arm facing the hammer and replace it with the spacer. Then just tap the pin back in place. It's really easy to do. The hammer will stay back every time the slide cycles so remember to decock it with your thumb in a safe manner unless you want it cocked with the safety on.
Also, there's similar information available at the Beretta Forum (http://www.berettaforum.net)
As for tried/true-ness, it's quite safe. The safety still rotates the firing pin, so a hammer fall is just as if the de-cocker were still there. Pulling the trigger while on safe still drops the hammer, as if the de-cocker had triggered it. So it's just as safe as using the de-cocker to drop the hammer on a loaded chamber.

Tried it but didn't like it. It was neat, but didn't find it any faster than my plain decock only. I didn't find it hard to manipulate though some don't like the placement of the safety on the Berettas.
Sold my Vertec, since I didn't have a reason to have an FS any more. Now to wait for that damn GSD!!!! :banghead:

Skunk, are you saying that you don't mind the DA trigger pull OR that you can manually cock the hammer to SA mode just as fast as removing the safety?
Does Beretta USA have an opinion about this mod? With so many people ordering the spacer, you'd think they know what they plan on doing with it. From the Beretta Forums, it sounds like they do know and are not discouraging the practice.
