How do you put the studs you attach a strap to into a stock?
Particularly synthetic...
I suppose with wood, you just drill and screw?

Yes.

Particularly synthetic...It depends on the stock, and the way it was made.

Some have a place molded in for stud attachment. You may have to drill out the holes.
Others are hollow and you have to take off the butt pad and build up a renforced place with glass cloth & epoxy.

Generally, the forearm is thick enough to just use the same stud & nut inside the barrel channel as used in a wood stock.

I normally scoop some of the expanded foam out of the hollow and roughly form a piece of hardwood to fit the profile of the stock where you will drill for the stud. You will use Epoxy resin or bedding compound to attach it.

I make it an inch or two larger on each side of the "target" if you will so the exact location is not critical. Also a little larger piece of wood or dowel will help prevent it from chipping out of the stock , not if, but when it gets banged.

While I'm there, I also like to epoxy two, 2-3" pieces of 1.5" hardwood dowel into the stock approximately where the recoil pad will be screwed in. A lot of custom synthetic makers kind of expect you to do this anyways. Its part of the 10 percent that is not inletted, ha ha ha!

Enjoy

What?
I'm not putting a recoil pad on.
But thanks for the advice.
