What's your shotgun setup for steel plate matches? What # load do you use?

Go to your local club shoots and observe, many places impose shot restrictions such as birdshot 7 or smaller to preserve their steel or to prevent pellets from leaving their property. Given my choice my gun and I like Federal reduced recoil #4 buck. Gun is a 870 police.

Shot one today, and used my 20" 870 w. rifle sights, 10-round extension, and #7 1/2 shot.

Mark,
I can't believe I missed this thread the first time around. I use my defense gun and live with its competitive shortcomings since it's loaded at home.
The club that we shoot at asks that we bring a certain size shot for safety since the targets are steel and can get as close as 10 yards. As much as I like good sights, they aren't CRITICAL like they are when placing a slug at 70 yards, but we won't be shooting slugs at the steel at our club.
I have a saddle for buckshot for making those long shots when the birdshot won't knock the steel over, or you have to hear the hits.
Are you going to convert one of your shotguns for competition?
My setup:
Benelli M1 Super 90
Singlepoint sling
Sidesaddle
Ghost ring sights
Soon to convert back to a pistol grip and diminished capacity.

Convert for match use? nope. Just picked up my new Mossberg 500 Persuader two hours ago. Cleaned and lubed it and am gonna take it out to the range in about an hour!
I'm actually gonna sell off my "HD" parts for the 870 cuz I didn't really care for its setup. Gonna leave the 870 for the Trap range only.

I am very much a novice at this sport, but here's what I use:
870; 18" rifle sight, fixed IC barrel
standard (military?) sling
6 round buttcuff
2 round extension
This setup will surely be tinkered with as I shoot more, but it works for the time being. We are limited to #6 or smaller at our range.

I'm way behind the curve, but I used 870s(Of course) with mag extensions, peep sights, a Side Saddle and a good trigger. Loads ran from duty 00 to 8s.

Benelli M1, 18 -1/2" barrel with rifle sights, Skeet choke with targets to 15 yds, modified with targets to 25 yds, Fiocchi White Rino 7-1/2. I am in the process of switching out the barrel to a 21" ribbed bead sight. If the targets are heavy and the rules permit, I increase shot size and charge weight to #5 x 1-1/4 Oz x 3-1/4 dram equiv. I haven't met a target that this won't drop.
