Hi,
I am just getting into reloading and I need to know if the rcbs jr3 will work for reloading the 300 wby? the opening is about 3 1/4 inch with the shell holder, so it looks like it won't work.....or do you just pull the shell out from the side, after it is loaded.....?? I just bought this one and told the guy what I was using it for, he said it should work but now I'm not sure.

Personally I`d get a Rock Chucker or Lyman Oragne Crusher. You will find a bigger press much easier to work with loading that big case. I`ve a old RCBS jr and the opening is just about as small as I want for 30-06 sized cartridges (not that it won`t do bigger) and the leverage is no where near the compound leverage of the bigger presses. That alone can be a big plus when sizeing large magnum brass.

Lee's Classic Cast press is beefier and more user friendly than any other in it's class, large enough to load the .50 BMG cartridge. LOTS less expensive than the others too, if money matters to anyone.

RCBS made the Jr. presses in quite a few versions, don't remember if the Jr 3 had compound toggle linkage or not. If not, you really don't want to do a lot of FL sizing that big case on a simple toggle press.

I just loaded some 300 wby on it and it is a little small. I have to take the casing out to get the bullet in, then tip it a little to the side to get it back in position, but it does work. I didn't know there was that much difference. It will work for now, but I'll keep an eye out for something bigger, but once I get it set to were I want it, I will only be making a few boxes a year.

Good deal. I'm glad it worked for you. Keep an eye out in the 'Trading Post' part of the forum. You can get some good deals on equipment and other reloading stuff.

i would look for a turret press. set your dies once and be done with it.
