Hi - I don't believe Ruger makes their 10/22 model for lefties. Question is, does it really make a big difference? Wanted to know if there are any lefties on here shooting rifles made for right handers, and if you have had any issues. I'm fairly new to long guns, so thought I'd ask before I made the purchase. Thanks!

I shoot left handed and have had no problems with the 10/22, or with most other semi-autos I have tried.

I'm not a lefty, but my Uncle Roy is. He's used standard "right hand" guns all his life and he's in his 60's now. I've never heard him say he had any problems with them.

Another lefty. I haven't had any issues shooting most rifles. Only time is the ones with some of the thumbhole stocks can be a little awkward. I have 2 Ruger 10/22's and haven't been hit once with brass.

I saw exactly 3 Ruger LEFT HANDED rimfire rifles,
One Ruger 10/22LR, One STAINLESS 10/22LR With Red White & Blue laminated stock, and one 10/22Mag,

And all 3 belonged to a long time Ruger employee, and I saw them at a 'Ruger Only' gunshow in Oklahoma City about 10 years ago.

I have to assume they were 'Special' makes since I've never seen a left hand version in any store or any gun show,
And I watch 10/22's VERY closely...
(my favorite rifle!)

Andrew;

I too shoot from the left shoulder. I also have a Ruger 10/22 & have not had any problems with shooting it from the left shoulder. But, that being said, my go-to .22 rimfire is a CZ452 left hand bolt gun.

I shoot left. Only thing that bugs me is the crossbolt safety. I have a regular type bolt rifle safety on my Remington bolt gun, more natural, but a right hand bolt gun I shoot left handed. To me, working the bolt with the right hand (I'm naturally right handed) is easier than putting up with a cross bolt safety.

But, the 10/22 is a really cool plinker. :D

I shoot left handed and for the first 40 years of my life shot right hand rifles. Nowdays I have a collection of left handed bolt actions: Mausers, Remington, Weatherby. I do have a right handed 10-22 and have no problem with it. However most rifles and all shotguns have a bit of a cast to them. Cast is a slight 1 to 3 degree curve in the stock it is an issue in shoting right hand long guns from the left side.

The only gun that ever bothered me for being righty-only is the AR15, because the charging handle is so weird. 10/22 is so light it's easy to hold it up with your firing hand and charge with your right, I wouldn't worry about it.

Plinkers, like a .22L, are probably safe regardless of whether you're on the East or West side.

I do believe that with larger or more powerful calibers you should have your mug on the correct side of the action. I'm a lefty and had a RH bolt action blow crap back in my face that would've missed me entirely if I'd been using a traditional LH action in the same circumstance. I was using factory ammo, too. Not special receipe stuff that leaves vapor trails on a cool morning.

I will miss throwing the bolt and loading with my right hand at the range. I've gotten use to it and it feels natural. However, I will be going left in an attempt to get it right.

JMHO.
