Any reason for a P95, if I have a P97?

I'm still trying to figure out a car gun. I was thinking about my P97 (which I bought for a car gun), but if I get out of the car and had to stick it in my waistband, it's kinda thick.

Then I thought about the P95. I thought since it's 9mm, it would be thinner, but it's not. It's just about a 1/2" shorter - that's all. Is there any reason this would be better than the P97 for a car gun?

Thanks,
Steve

I had a P95 and now own a P97. I was happy with the P95, especially since you can get hi caps for it, and haven't had any problems with the P97. I don't think you'll be dissapointed with either as a car gun.

For a car gun I would say get something cheep like a Makarov, that way if it were to get stolen you are not our big bucks and thaey are thin enough to carry as well.

The idea of leaving a gun in a car where it could be stolen scares the crap out of me. Too much potential problems, there. I'd probably keep it locked in the trunk when I wasn't carrying it., and in the dash or between the seats when I was driving.

If its important to CARRY a quality gun for self protection, why isn't it important to have a gun of similar quality as your "car" or "truck" gun?

Check your P-97. Those guns LOOK big, but if you check the measurements, you'll find they're not really all that much different than other guns. Most Glocks, for example, are just as wide. Other guns have longer grips, and others have much longer barrels...

Appearances are sometimes deceiving.

My own preference between the two is the P95 I agree with Walt Sherrill that Rugers suffer from a perception of "bigness" that is not borne out by measurement. Actually, however, the P95 while being shorter and lighter (slightly) than the P97 is actually thicker than the 97 through the slide stop area of the frame. I like them both, and think the P95 is vastly under-rated.

Three maybe not so good reasons, and one great reason for getting a P95:

If your marksmanship is marginal, you can still get hi-caps for it, bringing fire power up to 15+1:D .

9mm is also less expensive than .45auto enabling more frequent trips to the range or less expense when doing so (not a reason for a car gun).

Everybody needs a 9mm?

You want one?

I was other way about once ..... had my P95 ... and carried it (you'd never have guessed!!) ..... but I did also want the heavier cal and so picked up a P97 .... I have not been disappointed with either ... and both in fact will suit my Fobus paddle or Bianchi sho rig.

My only dilemma really is ''which one'' to carry .... these days I plump for the P97 regularly but .. there are still some days when I vacillate and can't decide!!!

I enjoy both ... they make a good pair.

I had the same question that went through my mind. I decided what the heck!!:D

The P95 and the P97 are excellent weapons!!

The only reason to pick the P95 over the P97 IMO is the ammo price. My P95 is one of my favorites and I'm looking at a P90 at the gun show this weekend. I'd say a big 'yes' to either. The one you choose will just have to be based on personal preference.
