for some strange reason my first post didn't appear)

Might not be able to clearly see the difference, but I applied some Van's to a few really worn areas of my DS.

It's been a carry piece, so I'm not really concerned about whether it worked right or not. Talked to COLT again today, but I'm still undecided about spending over $300 to have it re-blued.

Here's a before pic. Notice the wear on the edge of the barrel and strange spots on the cylinder:

After Van's

I give the product high marks, but as you all know, ain't nuthin' "cold" gonna replace old school Colt bluing.

Looks good. I've got a DS about the same vintage as yours and there is some wear on the barrel and sharp edges. I set it on(in) the desk for a while and those spots started to rust.:banghead: I soaked them with oil and put the gun in a gun sock to try and stop the rust. I haven't looked at it for a while, though. I was thinking about a re-blue job but haven't decided. Maybe I'll try this stuff first.

I can't remember if you bobbed the hammer yourself. Looks good. Any problems with light strikes?

Hell yes! I am getting sick of anal people with their "needs to be refinished" whine. Either put a cherry one in the safe, or shoot the darn thing and touch it up if needs be. Then again if you are building a custom gun or refinishing a worn out carry piece then -knock your self out!

What bothers me is the folks that say you should never refinish a gun. I say unless it's something really rare, do what you want with it. It's yours for Pete's sake. Whatever floats your boat.

A Texan from this forum did the hammer bob on both the DS and my Agent.

No light strikes even with a trigger/action job, too.

It's the best shooting revolver I currently own. A dream to shoot.

doc540, I know this is an old thread, but I have a couple of questions. 1) Where could I get Van's Cold Blue? Google has a lot of references, of people using Van's, but there are no places to purchase. 2) Could you provide
more details? Like, did you blue the whole gun, or just the splotches and worn areas? Apply any heat? How long did the project take? Thanks in advance.
