Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Just saw it...pretty good remake of the original. Better budget and better acting. Another horror movie gone awry where a 12 ga. and a few 00 buckshot loads would have ended it before the hour was up. Oh well, maybe these half naked horror movie girls will learn some day--but where's the fun it that?
I find it ironic that this was a Michael Bay film (Bad Boys II). I thought I read somewhere that he was on a board of some sort board against violence. Well, tell that to Leatherface...

Isn't it based on a true story?

I think it was loosely based on the Ed Gein murders, if I'm not mistaken. However, it's almost entirely fiction. There was never a cannibal family that looted graveyards and slaughtered passers by. So I guess "no" is what I'm trying to say.

Yeah, it's called Hollywood Hypocrites Against Politically Incorrect Violence.

Almost every one of the "we were just passing through, and now some whacko/creature is chasing us" movies would end a lot differently if Dad insisted his kid never drive across state lines without something that goes boom in the glovebox.

In the glovebox!?! I'm gonna hafta say that I think that IWB would be a better choice, but I digress.
I've never seen the original, but was thinking about seeing this one. Is it worth it? How did you like it?

Saw it this past weekend, never seen the original. Got a headache from it since we watched it on the Imax sized screen.
Thought it was ok, nothing I'd bother watching again if it came out on TV. Entire time I was thinking, danged movie woulda lasted 15 minutes if I were in it.

Any horror flick would be ended in about 10 seconds if the "star" had any sence whatsoever, oh! & a wherewithall to use a suitable firearm.
"Look-out! (A zombie ("shoot 'em in the head!")/bad-guy/ex-lover/yada) = "Stop! Don't! = No? = Ka-Boom! = End Of The Flick"
Nothing in it for HollyWeird.
A 10 minute flick showing that the Good Guy actually shot-to-death the perp doesn't play.
How many times have "we all" yelled at the babe "don't go into the basement!" :what: ;)
$#!+! A flashlight & a 12 gauge woulda stopped the flick toot-sweet :neener:

A good percentage of college kids would never carry concealed, but most probably wouldnt complain if Dad threw a .357 and a box or two of ammo in with the emergency supplies. Those that would complain about the gun in the car are hardcore antis and Darwin will hopefully straighten them out.
I'll definitely be packing a 1911 and a 590A1 when I drive from my parents' house to wherever I get my first real job. Maybe an FAL too. :D

I also caught the trailer for the much-anticipated Dawn of the Dead with a 12 ga.-weilding Ving Rhames. Looks promising.
My wife made the mistake of telling me she hasn't seen the original or the original TX Chainsaw Massacre.
Guess what we're doing for Halloween:D

Yes, the original TCM flik was distantly based on the Ed Gein story. Ed mostly did stuff to the already-dead folks, but was eventually compelled to kill a couple little old ladies IIRC, and finally got busted. I believe he was known to make bowls from skullcaps, and tried making some clothing from skin, ala Silence of the Lambs. Yeah, just google "Ed Gein" for a bunch of stuff on the old guy.

Oh, Psycho is also based on Gein.

Guys, we don't want to show kids using guns to defend themselves in these flicks. We'd be sending the wrong message.
Think of the children!

They'd also be kind of boring. Except Aliens.

This bunch in Scotland is more like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre than that idjit Ed Gein. (http://medrenregions.tripod.com/scotland/articles/cannibals.htm) The Beans. though, predated the invention of the chainsaw. Lovely bunch that they were, I'm sure they'd have made use of one if they had the opportunity.

Yeah, I read about that gang in an old book once. Course, cannibalism is still practiced in Africa regularly today.

As a Texan, I am offended by the blatant stereotyping in this movie. We very rarely use a chainsaw to greet our guests and we almost never eat them.
