Question for m1a gurus.

Just got an m1a and was excited to test it out this morning. I shot about 15 shots just fine and then the rifle shot out a burst of 2 shots when I pulled the trigger once. I'm not sure what caused this, any ideas? Another guy at the range said his does the same thing on occasion, said it happens because it is "bump firing" and that if you hold the rifle tighter it won't happen. Kind of worries me, I had a decent grip on it, but I was feathering the trigger pretty lightly.

I was using those cheap federal 150 gr. soft points.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Bingo, squeeze the trigger and don't release until after the recoil. This is a common occurrence for those not used to shooting a heavy recoiling semi auto.

ok, I freaked and didn't shoot it any more, I'll have to try that next time.

I've shot some other .308 semi's, but none had a light match trigger like this.

If you were tripling or had a runaway mag dump I would worry about the rifle but stick around these forums long enough you will hear people with the doubling problem all the time with Garands and M1As. They have nice smooth triggers probably the best out there on a military rifle combine that with the recoil and not squeezing the trigger and you will have this problem a lot.

How bad is for a rifle?

You can see it done on You Tube.

Looks like a really stupid thing to do. Is there a tactical application?

Well at least the OP got his question answered before the random question from the guy that should have started a new thread jumped in

How bad is for a rifle?

Is there a tactical application?

Depends how overrun your mall is by terrorists ninja zombies, it's really a tactic of last resort.

Bump firing didn't seem worth the thread space, but I would like to hear some folks chime in. Thanks for your thoughts.
