Here in Michigan I have a farm in the country. The closest house is about half a mile away. I have a range with a berm etc. Is it legal to fire on berm at night. Every now and then I like to see a muzzle flash but am curious that all of a sudden the man is going to appear. Thanks.

So what if he does show???? It's your land and unless there's something in a city or county ordinance or a state law that prohibits the practice then you should be good to go. I would be considerate to the neighbors and knock it off before bedtime in the community, whatever that may be....... I go to my range about 3 times a year to shoot in the darkness to prepare for a nightime intruder and I make the wife accompany me....... Practice, practice, practice......

Be considerate of neighbors and possible noise; also be extra careful and be SURE of your target and backstop, in low light conditions. Otherwise, have at it! :)

In "our" state it is perfectly legal to do "target practice" as long as you are more than 400 feet away from any one else's occupied structure.

The only other potential problem is if you have a local noise ordinance on the books which is VERY rare in farm country.

One of the Central Michigan gun clubs has regular IDPA matches after dark. Learning to shoot and reload with a flash light is an important skill.

Personally I do not like night shooting because of rule #4: Be sure of your target and what is beyond. Kind of hard to do when it is dark.

I'd be inclined to tell your local CO/game warden you have a range and sometimes shoot at night. You don't need to be suspected of hunting at night. Otherwise, it'd be up to your local by-laws.
