TheHighRoad was well represented at the Massachusetts GOAL (Gun Owners Action league) NRA Instructors Course this past weekend. atk, Flying Ashtray, and I all attended and graduated, becoming new NRA Instructors. Three out of 11 students from THR, I think it says something positive about our membership.
The course was challenging in that we put in five hours Friday night, almost 11 hours on Saturday, and about 10 hours today. A lot of information to cover and numerous exercises to test and develop our ability to conduct NRA classes. It was well worth the time and effort. I would recommend this course to anyone who is seriously interested in training new personnel in basic shooting and shooting safety.

The course was a blast. Many of us students (including myself) were very nervous, Friday, but by the time it was over, most of us were having lots of fun. Everyone had a great sense of humour.
There was an awful lot of information to cover, and it was packed in really tightly. In fact, we covered more information than the NRA course requires (we also touched upon MA gun laws).
The best thing the course covered was how to teach. The NRA has done an excellent job preparing course stuffs, and it really shows. The lesson plans were well thought out (those that we experienced, and those in the instructor guides that were handed out to the students) and easy to follow. The training counselors did a great job driving the plan home.
In addition to learning the NRA way for several tasks, and learning teaching skills, there were some other great benifits. The students are from all over the state, and everyone had some great experiences to share. New friends were made, members got to meet, and I think that almost everyone had fun. And, best of all, all eleven of us passed. GOAL members should look for our group's picture in the next issue of the Outdoor Message :D
P.S. Sorry that this is breif, and it may be a bit jumpy. I'm pretty wiped out :)

Was the instructor John Green, Jim Parks or someone else?

Jon Green and Darius Arbabi were the instructors. Both were knowledgeable and great guys to work with.
