In regards to the new proposed assault weapons ban. Now most of us know which guns it outlaws, pretty much everything and anything. However, what I do NOT understand, and wish to have clarified, is how it regards possession of already owned pre-ban guns? Since they are now illegal, do they have to be turned in if this new law passes?

If this new law passes can one still “legally” own and use pre-bans? Would one be able to sell pre-bans like we can currently? Just what guns will we have left, after this ban, to legally own and use? Single shot rifles and shotguns? A few pumps and bolt actions maybe? What will we all do as collective freedom loving individuals if such a blatantly unconstitutional law is passed and enforced? What will you personally do? What will happen to our once great Republic?

I believe that once you wade through the legalese, that you can keep what you have, but sale of it is severely restricted.

If the new ban passes, it will create two classes of prebans - pre-94 and pre-04. Both will be legal to own and use, but the ban would require anyone selling any "assault weapon" (pre-04 or pre-94) to make the sale through an FFL. The new ban also specifies that such sales are to be registered in a permanent central database.

Have not read the law, but I suspect that "grandfathered" comes into play. Kind of like a car made before 1967 or so are not required to have seat belts. Legal for the owner to operate on the road.

Any answer that starts with "Have not read the law" is not an answer at all.

There are two proposed bans. One, by Feinstein, merely eliminates the sunset of the AW ban, and bans import of hicaps. The other, bans millions of other guns, including the mini-14, and has other odious restrictions. I believe the Feinstein one is the only one in danger of passing.

It's hard to read the law if it has not yet become one, isn't it?
And what you might have read may not be the same bill which passes-Congress likes to change things......
