I bought a black powder pistol and the seller included a used Red River skinning knife for free. I never noticed what the fine print in the stamp said until the other day when I looked at it using magnification.
It says:
Red River Knives, A Division of Cold Steel, Carbon V, Made in U.S.A.

The Red River knives were discontinued by Cold Steel several years ago. They were good reproductions of old fur trapper-era patterns, made in Carbon V steel with hickory handles. Your gun dealer must have had some old stock on hand. Good knives, with better steel than the mountain men had, in truth.
Cold Steel makes a similar line currently, but with stainless blades and polypropylene handles; nowhere near as good as your Red River knife other than in resistance to the elements.
It's a handsome knife that should give you years of service, enjoy it!
