I've recently had increasing foot and back problems making walking more difficult. I've been using a wooden cane more often lately and recently saw the Cold Steel City Stick advertised

I wasn't considering it for primary self-defense. (There are a lot better tools for that.) It looks like it would be especially good where guns and knives are absolutely forbidden.

Anybody here have one and carry it for self-defense? I was wondering how you liked it.

I pack heat 24/7 but .... this does look a nice piece of ''equipment'' ..... do wonder tho as to legality of same ... particularly if it were used in an SD situation.

Due to a knee injury, I had to use a cane for about a year back in the mid-90's. Knob-headed canes are for styling or for flogging yeggs, but they aren't much good for use as a walking cane. The knobs don't let you comfortably put weight on the cane the way a crook-top does. I had a blackthorn that was very stylish and a great club, but not much of a cane.

Actually, the cane is a very good, if not better defensive tool than you might think. Think about it. IT IS ALREADY DEPLOYED! For the most part, people don't look @ you like you are "armed". You can pretty much go ANYWHERE with it. There is lots of info out there on the "defensive cane" and is worth a look.

I carry a knob-headed walking stick, when hiking.

It's an important part of my self-defense plan - if I'm ever attacked, I can whip off the knob, screw my camera in its place, and use the stick as a monopod so as to get unblurred pictures of my attacker :D

I've never found it to provide poor support - but I use it with a wrist-strap, which is unusual for an around-town cane.

I've had to use canes several times over the years due to injuries. Having had crooks and knobs and other variations I've found a good crook to be the most comfortable to use from a theraputic standpoint. Now, from a defensive standpoint don't let anyone tell you a cane isn't a great defensive weapon. I now have a canemaster instructor's cane that I carry on the plane with me and wherever I travel. Being a knife enthusiast I reluctantly had to admit that a stick (cane) will trump a knife with just a little training. Get a good crook top made from a good piece of hickory or oak and learn how to use it as a defensive tool.
