So... who's managed to launder their ammo?

Just came back from switching the clothes from the washer to the dryer. The dryer immediately started a CLANK-SCRAAAPE-CLANK-SCRAAAPE sound typical of a forgotten large coin (we have honkin' big two dollar coins up here). OK, let's fish the sucka out so I can wander the house in peace.

Turned out to be a round of 9mm that I must have pocketed after unloading and showing clear at the last match.

So, any bets on if it'll fire when I take it out to the range? It went through a full wash cycle after all. Sure is nice and squeaky shiney now though.... :D

Anyone else managed to wash their ammo?

I've washed a couple .357 Mag rounds. They went bang with all the others.

I thought you were going to describe an elaborate scheme that involved several "cash only" businesses and some creative accounting. I am disappointed. :)

I've never washed live rounds, but spent brass has an uncanny ability to find its way into my laundry.

While that would be in an interesting concept with ammo prices on the rise and availability on the wane I'm not sure I'd be up here bragging about it.... :D

Pssst.... I'll PM you if I manage to start such a scheme:D

Well, there's just me and the cat. I keep trying to talk him into taking on his share of the household chores... the VACUUMING would be nice since it's HIS fur.... But he just looks at me and plays dumb while I rant.

I know the little bugger is just having me on since he's brilliant at finding ways to get into trouble :D

I also have run 9x19 ammo through the washer. I didn't discover it until it started clunking in the drier. I have no one to blame but myself since I do my own laundry.

Lou

PS : I have not tried to fire any of it but I will now just to see if it works.

Well I guess I'll admit to laundering (wash only) my speed strip full of .357's once whe I was in a hurry to get the shorts I was wearing into the machine. :cuss: :cuss: I caught it between the washer and dryer and changed the rounds for fresh ones but the old ones still functioned fine at the range the next day...

There was a test by Robert K. Browns group at Soldier of Fortune a few years back on water damaged ammo. They used an old Maytag to wash 1000's of rounds of ammo in burlap sacks, all kinds of ammo. This was to simulate the worse case scene in the jungles and stuff. They even used salt water from the ocean for some of the wash cycles.

The only ammo that refused to work were the cheap .22lr $1 a box stuff and most of the 9mm crap from the eastern blocks. I was surprised that even the Shot Gun ammo worked.

One conclusion all had at the tests, all were amazed at how many malfunctions they did not have as compared to the unwashed ammo. The unwashed mil-surp stuff jammed due to wax, oils, minor surface corrosion. :D

Have a Nice Day
Mike

After the tests, they had the washer trucked to Knob Creek Gun Range in KY and I believe Ralph Deter with his Dual Mini Gun proceeded to give it a proper and honorable death.

I’ve accidently washed full speedloaders or speed strips many times. Every round subsequently fired EXCEPT ONE- that one squibbed and got stuck in the barrel of my 442. Set me back about $150 to get it out. :cuss: I throw washed ammo away now.

I've had some .22lr go through the laundry before, it all went bang too. I was surprised, I didn't think there was any way it would work.

Let me get this straight. You put UNlaundered rounds back in the speed strip for the dryer cycle? Didn't that leave reloading lube residue on your delicates?

Quick side question... Would using Downey fabric softener result is a softer recoil?

Cool, what did they do to the washer? Was it like a small scale depth charging? Got pics? ;) :p

I think they did make a vid of the GE Mini Gun shooting the Washer at Knob Creek, I rem they placed a 1 gal can of gas in the tub and the Mini gun shot like 800 rounds with tracers into the washer, 2 seconds and poof and boom went the gas. Then it was et in the metals junk pile for their monthly trip to the scrap yard.

BTW.... the R. Lee Ermy - Mail Call Show session at Knob Creek is on Youtube, here is the link. This by far is one of my top three Mail Call series I have seen. :what:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIZpCLvXsoM

For those that do not know, Knob Creek is a gun range that was designed to handle various Machine Guns, Sub Guns, cannos, and all sorts of so called Destructive Devices. They have a public MG shoot twice a year and thousands of people show up, close to a 6 year waiting list to get a space on the fireing line, but many shooters rent their MG/Sub's out so public can shoot them as well. Here is their web site and twice a year MG shoot info. The next shoot is Oct 9-10-11, 2009

BC, only in the new Pink Glocks (I actually had a female customer order one, I would only sell it after 9pm in a dark corner and on the 4473 I actually called it "The Pink Glock.") with the PINK ( I am dead serious, it all came from lady Shooters Supplies) AMMO.... Downey Softener, I am certain will result in a softer recoil and the shots will smell Spring Fresh. The Oxy Clean Ammo is just freaking Loud like Billy Mayes the hawker who yell sells it.

I am in the process of making a "Mighty Mend It," putty pistol, totally made of Mighty Mend It putty and plastic springs and a Lexon firing pin and a Lexon fiber re-inforced barrel liner. I am trying to create a "Mighty Mend It," bullet with a plastic case like the CCI training 2 piece rounds, I just have to figger out how to make a plastic primer that will not blow my hand off. The whole thing will look close to a WWII Liberator, one shot pistol with storage of ammo in the grip well just like the liberator, although this one will be for a .32 cal. Gotta love the new Craftsmen computer programed router to cut out the putty to blue print :neener:

I always manage to find a round in the laundry after a shooting trip. Never a problem though and all have fired afterwards.

While on a business trip to Nevada my clients took me target shooting. Somehow a 12 gauge shell ended up in a cargo pocket. The pants then went into a washer at the laundry mat and well lets just say that the manager happen to be on site at the time and when I opened my machine to take it out, he saw what I had pulled out and he was less than happy. He was pretty sure that it was going to blow up his building.

.....and I am saying......

Oh sure, blame the hash marks on the thongs to bullet lube........I use a thong of my GF's as an eye patch for my Pirates costume, I am sure she never thought of the bullet lube excuse. . :neener::what:
