My son and I went to the range today with the following guns:
.54 Belgian rifle/musket (made in 1859). I used 80 grs of Goex FFFG
.50 Hawkins (Traditions) My son used 80 grs of Pryodex FFG.
.36 Savage & North 20 grs BP
.36 Whitney 20 grs BP .380 roundball
.36 Uberti 1862 Pocket Police 20 grs BP. .380 roundball.

The Belgian is a smoothbore but pretty accurate up to 100 yds.
The Hawkins is amazingly accurate up to 100 yds. The plate in the pic is from an old Second Chance vest - the dents are from the .50 Hawkins.
The Savage & North has some ignition issues but still works well. A .380 ball is a little too small so I "bumped" the balls up with a hammer.
The Whitney works like a new replica - flawless.
The loading lever latch on the Uberti Pocket Police went flying.

That old trauma plate appears to have done its' job quite well. Any idea what metal it's made from?

Oh, and since I ordered an uber cool Walker loading lever retention device in a patina finish from sltm1, I'll loan you my old Walker loading lever retaining device until you can get a new latch for your 1860.

No charge for it either. I'm generous like that. :)

Well, Pohill, it's seems the Walker's wang keeps dropping. Now I know that's generally expected of a Walker, especially one as old as mine, but I believe you may be on to something here. Is that device available in an extra large version? I don't want to risk my Walker's wang on a light duty device here.

The Savage & North is an interesting gun - it'd be great to have a repro of it.
Remove the side plate and you can watch "all the action."

The ring under the trigger is actually a lever that cocks the hammer and advances the cylinder.

I wish they'd make a replica of a Pettingill pistol,or a Savage North.

I think the Pettingill became the Rogers & Spencer, while the Savage & North just faded away. It's a little more complicated than a Colt due to the gas seal between the cylinder and barrel. It's not as pretty or balanced as a Colt, but it's still interesting to shoot. I wonder how hard it would be to replicate.
