Which ones do I need? All I've been seeing is thread patterns and measurements. I guess math isn't my strongest suit.

Life is so much easier when you get the treso nipples. the original uberit nipples i had on my gun were such a pain. i couldnt fire my gun longer than 20 minutes without having to take it apart. cap fragments would always fall in the works. caps would fall off all the time. even when pinching them. then it seemed as though they would need to be struck twice to fire. or caps replaced and fired twice. When i replaced them with tresso nipples. i did not have the cap problems anymore. almost 0 fail to fires. cap fragments would stay on or around the nipple until i removed them. life is just so much easier now

Scrat, I have this same problem on all the revolvers I have. Except the Ruger old army. I guess I have to get in touch with track of the wolf. Maybe they can help me with, the different makers and cal. Nothing is worse then firing and a cap falls into the works. If you are lucky you can do something with it in the field. Most time I got to take apart the whole revolver. But, I'm getting better at that and helps with a good cleaning.

the best way to combat this is grease. i put grease around the nipples even on the walker with the tresso nipples. What happens is when you fire the gun the caps still break up but they stick to the grease around the nipples. So you take off the fragments instead of having them fall into the works. Now about the FTF that is one sign of bad nipple to cap fit.

All I've ever used is Remington #10 caps and only occasionally get a cap under the hammer. One of the biggest problems is the caps getting blown into that little safety cutout in the hammer which pulls the cap off when it is cocked. A softer powder (shallower pressure curve) like FFg (instead of FFFg) has helped me alot. I have not changed out my nipples and use the following load: 44grs FFg+lube wad+.454RB+over ball grease+rem#10cap. I think a light hammer fall + heavy loads will increase your cap jams.

I use Knight Breech Plug Grease on my nipples, but any breech plug grease should work.

I have Tressos on my Walker and Dragoon and have the replacement nipples that were sold by Thunder Ridge on everything else (3 Navys, 2 Armys, 2 Remingtons). Did the switch a couple of years ago. All take #10 Remington caps perfectly and snuggly and I never have problems or have to worry about them anymore. Plus it allowed me to really stock up on caps, one size fits all! I think I still have over 3500 caps on my shelf.:neener:
They are well well worth the investment.
