Who says gangstas can't shoot?

Last night I did my first shift in the ER as an EMT-trainee.

The first case they brought into trauma had a nice neat 9mm hole perfectly centered in his sternum.

Either the shooter made good use of his Homeboy Nyte Sytes [tm] (http://www.birdman.org/products/homeboy1.htm), or there's a rogue olympic shooter on the loose.

It's all rumor and hearsay but I've heard from various unreliable sources that since the magazine capacty ban the criminal element has done 2 dangerous things to make up for the lack of rounds. Upgraded to bigger calibers and started practicing.

As a result gunshot injuries are on the decline and fatalities are on the rise in "gang related" shootings. Modern rappers are talking about "44"s and "10"s instead of "9"s. Scary stuff.

where there any black speckles on the victim's shirt or chest?

Those would be the powder burn marks.

(Heck, even I can make Xs at three feet.)

Nope, no powder burns.

Then again, he was shirtless when we got him. I suppose the burns could have been on his shirt, if he had one.

Following the Beretta's popular rise after Miami Vice, I have a theory that street-crime gun deaths would decline if popular movies were made where everybody was armed with .25 derringers.

I've heard that too. They say the cops found a makeshift firing range in the desert east of LA once used by some gang. Don't underestimate the dirtbags.

What Mark said.

That's why the good gun schools try to screen their students - they don't want to help these vermin.

I saw some at the range, they couldn't hit the target
at 7 yrds!
everybody else went to the other side of the range
(protected by walls and doors)
one guy hit the ceiling twice so they made him stop.
As an armed guard I found it very comforting.

So, wingnutz, you forgot to tell us the most important part - did we lose the honor of sharing this earth with him? Or did you guys pull him through?

you know, the few bangers that show up at the range display the same (in)accuracy that the tactical wannabes do. both seem to be dead on for hitting the imaginary parrot sitting on the silhouettes shoulder at 5 yards, 10, up to 20 yards.

Quartus- he was toast when we got him. The paramedics had been working on him for 10 minutes strictly as a technicality, but he was gone even before they got ahold of him, and they weren't sure how long he'd been laying there.

The trauma surgeon called it right off the bat.

It was a very educational night for me.

Let the gangstas learn to shoot. 99% of the time they are aiming for each other and maybe there will be fewer innocents caught in the crossfire.

Whew! I'm glad I'm a wolf rather than a parrot.

I'm all for a government program called 'lazer sights for gangbangers" which would as the name states, help subsidize lazer sights for gangbangers. Since the tend to shoot with a sideways gun, the standard iron sights do them no good. Instead of hitting rival gangmembers or drug addicts that owe them money, they end up hitting grandmothers at bus stops and 4 year old girls who are playing in the front yard. Give them an adequate sighting system and maybe they will take another scumbag off the street instead of causing collateral casualties. Lazersights for gangbangers= sucking chest wounds for gangbangers:evil:

I believe it's foolish to assume that any potential adversary has poor shooting skills.

To generalize the abilities of others is to underestimate your foe.

My mindset is that any opponent I face will be a better marksman than me. Mr. Murphy will make sure this is true.

last week there was a shooting here in a shopping mall. apparently some people got in an argument and shots were fired. know what the reaction of some of the workers in the mall was?

"oh it was in broad daylight, they werent shooting to kill, no one was at risk." some closed up shop and took cover. but most went about their normal business.

Well, I'm glad to hear about the capability of he 9mm. And if the first one fails, I've got 14 more where that one came from, before the first reload... ;)

In all seriousness... gangbanger shooting ranges in the desert? Holy hell...

I think if any gangbangers showed up at my range, the 'necks would be giving their sincere testimony about how all of them spontaneously had "range accidents" all at the same time...

When I was in WA, I remember hearing "unofficial" ranges in the areas off I-90 east of Seattle...in clearings off forest service roads, or under power-line right of ways. Some of the shooters are people only out to hurt soda cans, some are gangstas. One of the reasons I stuck to "official" ranges-like Bulls Eye or the Personally Owned Weapon range on Ft Lewis.

Maybe he was standing next to the intended. I've always felt that the best defense in a drive by is to stand up and say "Your mama works the corner in combat boots". If you're the target you stand a much better chance of surviving

Assuming that criminals can't shoot is, at best, an iffy proposition. If I make any assumptions about my opponent, it is that he is skilled, brave, and determined. I then plan accordingly. If he turns out to be a clumsy fool, then I am in a better position. Life is not so wonderful that all the bad guys are stupid, unskilled cowards we would like to believe.

Hey, I'm a tactical wannabe, and I can smack a swinging tennis ball at 11 yards on demand. ;)

LOL on the parrot!!! That and the clip holding the paper targets, they seem to hit those a lot.

I spend 99% of my shooting time at one of those "'unofficial" shooting ranges. Except mine is a little north of Seattle. I suspect that if any bangers showed up there they wound not be any further menace to society. :D
