This is what I sent:
Sirs [and Ladies], in regards to the proposed expansion of the lead ammo ban [or Condor Protection Act] I ask that you reconsider. My hobby is shooting antique Buffalo rifles, and modern replicas thereof. I'm a member of the Humboldt Black powder Heritage Association, and I shoot an original 1884 Trapdoor Springfield .45-70.Let me assure you no actual buffalo are ever harmed at our monthly shoots. I and my fellow club members use the original paper and metallic cartridges, in the original calibers, and we cast our own lead bullets, useing original and replica molds,to put holes in PAPER buffalo,or shoot a buffalo shaped metal gong at various distances. We hurt no living creature while we do this. We eat chili, and we visit with friends. It's a great hobby, and lead bullets are a part of it.Come on out and join us sometime!
Thanks!

If EVERY shooter who lived in California would write a similar letter,we might just be sending a message...

That's a good idea. What can us non-CA residents do to help?

I'd write the Ca. dept of fish and game and tell 'em you think it's a bad idea.the more folks that do,the more likely they'll listen...we're haveing terrible budget woes.Out of staters might mention hunts called off,and tourist dollars lost.Get creative. You don't want to sound like a form-letter or robo mailing, because I don't think anyone listens to them anymore...

I don't know why they don't make this a hunting issue only (even then it's goofy, but...) Condors don't sift through the dirt at shooting ranges trying to eat lead bullets; they get lead fragments from the gut piles left by hunters after shooting an animal. And really, how much of a condor's food comes from that gut pile as oppossed to animals that just died from whatever reason? It's a hunting issue, albeit a minor one, not a shooting issue.
And, there's no 'e' in 'using.' :-D Good luck with this! I used to live in California and left because of this kind of stupidity.

And just how many gut piles have a bullet in them. Most hunters use such rifles that they blow right the critter. Even shooting gophers with a 22 the bullet goes on thru with a mushroom.
Sounds to me they are just makeing this up in there head as anothe exscuse to ban something. We lost lead shot due to a few ducks eating the lead off the bottom of sloughs and such and then lost lead fish weights now lead bullets.

Some good talking points for letters, but let's stay on focus.

That's exactly what's going on. The anti's are using incrementalism to try to have guns eliminated in California. If they can make it too expensive to shoot, then few people will bother to own a gun.

I know I'm going to get jumped on for stating this but that dosen't change the fact that it's the truth..
Sooner or later people have to lie in the bed they made or stood back and let someone else make for them. The people in California put these people in office and they have no one to blame but themselves. California is totally wrecked and messed up from one end to the other in every way one could imagine and it's nobody's fault except the people of California, and I reckon I'd just about as soon go live with President Armadinajad in Iran as to live in California...

One thing an out of state guy can do is send a similar message but state it in a way that you are planning to hunt in California etc and now am having second thoughts. Not only will they lose out on the money you spend for meals, lodging, sales tax, but also the license fee ($$$) and associated costs with your stay.

Personally,I think the ban is really aimed at cast bullet makers.Almost anyone can melt lead and make bullets, whereas swaging is much more complex, and requires expensive tooling.

I really think that *********** legislation is so far from the people that no matter the volume of letters they get they will vote for it anyway. But you can never try hard enough. I would send the letter everyday to every state legislator till they are forced to listen.

Actually the ban is aimed at all gun owners. Bullet casters are a small segment of gun owners. The anti's are trying to make it so expensive to shoot that people won't bother to learn a new sport or hobby. It's just one more step to eliminating gun ownership in Ca. These people are the specialists at getting the water to a boil slowly.

You are 100% correct.
I lived in Los Angeles for 35 years and fought the Marxist Socialist Fascist inspired gun grabbers from 1963 post JFK assassination, until I left the State in Nov., 1997. Their goal is to eventually ban all guns in Calif., other than those of the Police, and body guards of the extreme elite, mega-wealthy left wingers.
(I created a phrase for those tyrannical hypocrites: "The Mega Millionaire Marxists and Billionaire Bolsheviks.")
