What is a good price for a S&W 586?

I just purchased a used S&W 586 and I was wondering if I got a good deal. I don't have it yet but from the pic and the description it is in excellent condition 90% with 4" bbl, red insert front sight and white outline rear. It comes with Pachmyer grips, not original. I have bought from this dealer before so I feel somewhat confident that his description is accurate.

Assuming what I said is true, what is a good price? I will be paying $250 + $10 ship and $10 FFL. Is that a decent price? Around here, they seem to go for over $325 + tax but the only ones I have seen were in 95%+ condition with original grips.

I don't like the factory grips anyway so I plan on replacing them.

I got a 6" 98%+ has the red ramp and white outline rear for 300 otd 6 months ago. I got a 4" nickle in like new condition for 350 about 4 months ago. I felt I got real good deals on these for my area. Sounds like your deal is a good one.

I got the one I ground the full lug to a half lug for $275 and I really like it now. It is like a m19 on steroids.

Here in MD you'd be really lucky to find a used L-frame for under $350. If you are patient and lucky you may find one for $350-400. Usually they seem to go for $400-450.

It seems like prices vary according to location. Near me, the S&W revolvers are often more expensive than what I can get online but less than some states (MA, CA). It seems like online, I can often save myself $50-100 but the downside is, I don't get to hold the gun before I buy. I would like to buy from a local dealer but if it means paying $350-400 for the same gun I can get online for $250, I will take a chance.

Its too bad dealers around me don't seem to want to sell guns. All I hear from them is how they aren't selling any guns but they still won't come down off their high prices to make a sale. You would think making $50-75 on a sale is better than making $0 off a customer that walks out and buys via the net but they don't seem to get it.

I have picked out guns at gunstores and told the dealer how much I would pay them cash on the spot for a certain gun and have them decline my offer. I know and they know that they would be making money on the deal but they would rather wait years for a sucker to buy it at their high price and make $200 off a used S&W revolver.

I paid $300 for my 4" bbl 586-1 in excellent condition here in Ohio.
