I have a M-19 and will soon be getting a 586 both with square butts. What are some nice wood grips to put on them? I don't like the factory target grips because they are too large for my hand. I don't want rubber or plastic because these guns are blued and I don't like the look of blued steel and black grips for some reason. Blued steel needs wood IMO. I like Houge wood finger groove grips but are there better grips out there?

What do you like on your S&Ws? What are the ball park prices of the nice wood grips available?

I like Herrett grips either in the Jordan or Roper style.
Have both but the price might be prohibitive now.
Mine were bought years ago before the price got
so high. I believe they will run around 85.00 now.

Smith made some wood grips for K/L in a smooth "combat finger-groove" style, for a few years in the late 80's. You can find them on Ebay, but surprise they aren't cheap. I had a set and recall them feeling pretty good, though a little slick.

I just found a set for N frame, and I am looking forward to putting them on my M27.:)

www.eaglegrips.com This company makes grips from Indian rosewood, other exotic woods and, until recently, ivory. I think some Classic grips would look and work great on your guns. I have some of these myself on a S&W 25-5, and a Secret Service on a Colt Agent.

I agree the factory targets are way too big and blocky for me and my hands aren't that small.

I would recommend using the standard magna grips with a Tyler T-grip adapter. You get a comfortable hold on the gun and classic good looks.

Kim Ahrends grips. Good fill behind the trigger, not too "fat." Nice wood. I prefer them without fingergrooves, but you can get them either way.

Check with CDNN Investments. They have many K/L square butt wood grips (few round ones, however). Very reasonable - and good quality, I hear.

Bad grips will make you hate a gun, good grips will make you love it.

For my square butt scoped 6" 586 I chose Hogues laminate rosewood finger groove grips.

But I have small hands, so try and get a grip on your grip before yanking your wallet.

'Nother vote for the Magna grips. I really like the way checkered walnut looks, plus it's got the logo/medallion. My .02.

I went through so many grips on my Model 10. I finally went back to the Magnas with the Tyler T grip. I got the best accuracy and control with them.

I got a pair that came on my Detroit Police Model 64, circa 1989. They are very nice, and fit the hand great. They are also pretty to look at.
If a pair can be found, they are worth the money!

B-27,
those are nice grips! What type of wood is that? They look darker than most I have seen. I like them better than the light colored wood grips.

I think I have made up my mind unless I find a great deal on some Eagles. I had a set of the wood hogues before I thought they were about perfect. They are solid and mount to the gun like a vise.

IMHO, the best you can do would be the grips from Nils or Spegel.
