This Unlikely? I'm Looking for a Scope....

I'm looking for a scope that's made in the external adjustment style of many old target scopes and most Unertl scopes even lately (not sure if he's still making optics).

Anyway I'm wondering if anyone in the website has run across a manufacturer who is putting out a decent copy of the old Winchester A series scopes, or the scopes sold by J.Stevens Arms Co., or non large objective Lyman scopes of long ago? Even a Chinese product would be something I'd like to look at, at least. Does anyone make such a thing?

I have an old Stevens schuetzen rifle and an almost as old Stevens Walnut Hill rifle, both with factory barrel mount scope blocks and would like to glass one or the other of these without breaking the bank for a rebuilt period scope.

Try Leatherwood/HiLux.
They are making some old style long scopes at least.

This guy here has some vintage Unertl scopes for sale.

EXCELLENT!!

Thanks much, rc, that Malcolm "short scope" is just what I was hoping to find, and there it is.

How odd is it that I found no mention of it in the place where I bought a Axtel tang sight for the longer Schuetzen rifle I have, nor in any of the several related types of sites I looked at.

They are even using one of the classic makernames - Malcolm, or I think it was William Malcolm, is one of the oldest optics makers.

This is too perfect! I'd seemed to remember that either Tasco or Swift had come with an external adjustment scope of the type but couldn't find any mention of them no matter where I looked.

So as a last resort I start a thread here and within 20 minutes you have my answer......Are you ready to be kissed? :) I could kiss you for this one.

I did know about that guy who specializes in Unertls and some other target scopes but I really wanted to find a straight tube as that's what the guys who originally bought my rifle must have used. The last Stevens Schuetzen model was sold in 1916 and at that time only Lyman and Lipzshirtz (sp?) were just developing their add-on power increasers with a bell type larger objective. Not that I'm all wired into keeping the rifle(s) authentic - I only thought to keep the optical assistance as simple as possible.

This, with new glass and reticles, and who knows - maybe a warranty even is a better modern day answer than dealing with repairs and dark images and such.

Thanks again!
