Here is my Flintlock pistol with the percusion cap converson. All you do to
change from a Flint to a cap is change the frizzen and replace the flint with
this piece of steel that's shaped like a flint. Works just fine as a hammer.

The idea of using a piece of steel to replace the flint is pure genius! :)

Change the frizzen?
Looks like the frizzen is right there and you have a drum and nipple screwed in in place of a flash hole bushing.

I have seen pictures of period conversions done that way, with a steel insert in the flint cock jaws so the hammer did not have to be replaced. They usually took off the frizzen, though.

I was about to say the same thing what did you change the frizzen to?

Look closer fellas, I thought the same thing myself at first. You'll note that the frizzen face is moved further back, and there's a steel base coming out from that to cover the pan. The nipple is screwed into that steel foot coming from the frizzen. The flash from the percussion cap then goes though the nipple, in the pan, through the flash hole, into the powder. It uses the pan as a drum like what's normally on a caplock.

Now add a quadrail, laser, and a side saddle for paper cartridges and you are in business!

That is definitely different. It looks like the "frizzen" would also act to prevent any cap fragments from coming back and hitting the shooter.

Your right Matt J2, Thats how it works. I really don't have to replace the
steel hammer with a flint if I use my frizzen with the Atomic face. For those
of you who don"t know what that is, it's a piece of material that Russ Hamn
the lock maker, sold to put on the face of frizzens. It does not need a flint
to make sparks. Just anything hard scraping down it. The sparks are so intense, they will hit the ground, white hot. I kidd you not! You can even
forget about putting powder in the pan too. One spark hits it and away she
goes. They outlawed these at the Nationals years ago.
