I've hand made quite a few and I know of a lot of creative ways to make targets, but what I'm looking for is a good plan for a standard tartget stand.

Something like you would find on a PPC or IDPA course. maybe even a take down version.

Thanks in advance.

I use farrowing strips 0.5"thick x2"wide. Cut 2 cross members 18" long and 2 uprights ~60" long. I usually glue and screw the 18" cross members to the uprights at ~ 9" and ~36" from the bottom. This gives a target stand that the same wideth as an IDPA target. I use 2x4s made into and "H" to hold them. Cheap and very transportable to and from the range. These last ~ 6months of our weekly practical matches eventhough a couple our shooters have "wood seeking" bullets! :D

I make ones kind of like this one:

The main difference is that I make mine in three parts, the two sides and the middle, and they bolt together. 1"X2" firring strips fit into the 2"X1" box tubing perfectly.

Lightning--that is basically what we use (IDPA/USPSA). The only difference is that our centers are spaced 3/4" apart and we stick 1x2s in. There is no center spacer so we can place a 1x2 in the middle if we need to (maybe for a no-shoot that is stapled to a shoot, but needs a third leg for support).

Ours are "H" shaped, with the verticals 2' long. The center is made from 2 18" 2x4s spaced 3/4" apart. A treated 8' stud will make one stand.

If you want stands that resist wind better and stack a little nicer, put an 18" 2x4 on each end in addition to the 2 in the center. A treated 10' 2x4 is needed for this version.

I made a jig and made 60 stands in an afternoon. They're quick, easy, and cheap. What's not to like?
