just found site on army technology with steyr section and the most beautifull sight I have seen. redesigned steyr M series handgun with the inverted picatinny rail. more ergonomic grip with same angle looks bit beefier though same angle.

I heard rumor while ago steyr was coming out with something new.

Hopefully it will be available to the civilian public. I also hope that the company can settle down as the rumors that have surrounded it have greatly affected importation, sales, and support of the M/S series pistols.

nice, I like it. I like how they improved the fit at the front of the frame as well as the new lines. The frame on my Steyr doesn't have a consistent line/gap where it meets the slide on the front of the gun, its not bad just an eye sore if you notice it. I wish they would make a better looking, metal, non-captive recoil guide though, so I could have the flexibility of being able to us different springs.

I like the redesigned rails. The old slots in the frame seemed to be totally for ornamentation, not function. I really don't like what they did with the grip. They had it right to start with. :banghead:

I like the new look grip as well. As long as it's not too fat (which it doesn't appear to be), and it retains the same/similar angle, I would be happy. About the only complaint I've heard regarding the grips on the M/S series was that they were too slippery, so it would seem that the new textured style would solve this problem.

As for magazines ect., this is where the Steyr severly lacks, in the area of available parts and service. It sure would be nice if the Steyr could garner some interest from U.S. LE, maybe that would help get the ball rolling. Actually, I would just like to see more support for it, like more retailers carrying spare parts, mags, ect.....and more people with the ability to provide warranty service for the gun. All Steyr needs is some marketing and backing. The XD took off thanks to Springfield's lifetime warranty, and extra advertising in gunrags ect....and IMO, the Steyr is a superior pistol.

I kind of like it. The new design makes me think of a Sig Pro. The grip kinda has an arch like a CZ. If they would only make one in .45 I would invest in anouther caliber. I wonder if it will take the current magazines use for the M series?

Looks kinda like a CZ100 with a Glock trigger. I'm a fan of low profile slides.
Once you own a CZ, most other pistols seem to have a a high bore axis
and don't offer fast sight alignment.

The Steyr Pistol M-A1 Series offers the possibility for three safety conditions for individual selection: reset action safety system, manual safety and an integrated limited access lock with key.

It sure doesn't look like it is there, but they say it is.

I remember reading somewhere sometime ago that Steyr at some point had plans to bring out an L series chambered in .45 ACP. I love my M9 and it'd be awfully neat to add an L45 to the collection.

The new grip style really doesn't do anything for me, I've had no problems with my M9's grip. Having a functional accessory mount would be very nice, though.

Another thing I've noticed is that usasteyr.com (the official U.S. repair factility, I believe) has listed S-series magazines in 9x21. I suppose it wouldn't surprise me if Steyr has an S9x21 for sale in Italy and other non-military caliber countries, but why sell the magazines here?

9x21 is slightly longer 9mm. thought it was .357sig for moment. keep getting confused.

good difference over cz100 and steyr M series is the steyr has all metal frame rails. and they are replaceable if damaged. the trigger is nicer on steyr though suprised they did not go to triple action trigger like walther p99 and daewoo dp40,dp51 and cz 110.

I think its possible to make an adapter for Steyr M series from the current accessory rail to the picatinny. emailed GG&G once back in summer and told me to they wouldnt do anything till fall. emailed them bout a week ago and no responce so far. they make a similar item its a rail adapter for HK's to picatinny. my main concern on the adapter is material its made out of and potentially damaging the polymer frame. frame is a little bit flexible and it looks like with the M-A1 they beefed it up.

if you are a gunsmith or know someone that can make something like this you can get make some money as I am sure their are a few people that would like it. heck would probably encourage few people to get the steyr knowing they can get a light and laser on it.

What we know simply as 9mm or "9mm Luger" or "9mm Parabellum" is also called 9x19 (9mm in diameter, 19mm in length). 9x21 is thus 9mm in diameter, 21 mm in length. Since in many countries, such as Italy, France, Mexico, etc. it is illegal for citizens to own semi-autos in military calibers, the 9x21 is popular in these countries for obvious reasons. From my understanding, this caliber was designed specifically for this purpose. Of course, it seems like it'd be mighty easy to convert these guns to 9x19 (perhaps just a bushing in the chamber?), but anyway...

Also note that when I say usasteyr.com was selling S-series magazines in 9x21, they are distinct magazines! They're not selling 9mm or .40 S&W magazines that also work with 9x21. The 9x21 mags are sold separately under separate ID numbers. Besides, with the same bullet length I use in my 9x19 cartridges, a 9x21 wouldn't fit in my Steyr 9x19 mags. Nevertheless, it's my understanding that the extra 2mm isn't particularly useful in terms of power since most if not all 9x21 guns are just slightly modified 9x19 guns. So given the lack of availability of 9x21 Steyrs in the U.S., it seems odd they'd be selling the magazines. There's also a 9x23 that I believe is actually significantly more powerful. If I'm not mistaken, it's allowed action pistol people to make major power factor using a 9mm projectile whilst retaining all of their hands and fingers.

Hmm ... my opinion ... I like the new rail but do not think there was a need to change the grip. I really like the M-series grip. It fits me very well in spite of the fact that I have fairly long fingers. The gun just seems locked in place when I am shooting. And I have not noticed any problem with the grip being slippery. Now, if they would only slim down the slide to say a Glock 19 width or less ...

Didn't get a chance to pick one of these up before 2000, someone remind me, the safety engagement levers were in the depression on the frame, slightly above the trigger guard and just forward of the takedown lever?

the lock was just in front of the take down lever. The manuel one was inside the the trigger guard in the frame in front of the trigger, and I kinda like it there.

Hmm..

I like the grips on the M40, the old grips better... It was a bit slippery in wet hands, so they needed to make it more tactile (not tactical)..

The manual safety was cool too..

I just wanted more functional rails..
