As much as I'd like to see the violence end in Northern Ireland, I'm a bit disturbed by this quote. "An IRA statement came shortly after the leader of its political ally Sinn Fein said his party wanted to see all guns taken out of Irish society."

Hopefully the next step will be the various Provo and Unionist gangs committing public seppuku en masse in atonement for their crimes, after apologising for them.

para-millitary groups have a bunch and would never surrender
all of them.
Having guns is a good way to keep the Irish drug gangs in line
