A buddy of mine said he liked two single magpouches over a double as they print less. Since I wear a 30" (I'm really 27" or so :eek: ) I run short on belt space so prefer a double over two singles. What do y'all prefer? A single? Two singles? Or a double?

I am a 28" waist size and I wear a Galco DMC26 double and it works great for me - I don't even know its there. For IDPA I wear two of these and even with the four mags I'm not uncomfortable. They're not cheap (about $50) but they work well and they are very adjustable.

Two singles, one on each side. Just in case, for some reason, I'm in a situation where I need a reload and one side is more easily accessible.

For the soldier, field cop or guard - - Anyone whose duties entail seeking out the enemy, it makes a lot of sense to carry all the armament and reloads one conveniently can. Likewise, if going afield, into the woods, mountains, or desert, resupply may be a long walk away.

For most of us, in town, a LOT of spare armament is rather unrealistic, and perhaps a bit pugnacious. The real purpose of the reloads is to be able to regroup and return to ready status following a brief, violent, encounter. Lightning DOES strike twice on the same day, though the statistical probablility is vanishingly small.

I'm an administrative staff deputy with a medium-size sheriff's office and I carry a single spare .45 mag. When going out on warrants or with the patrol deputies, I drop an extra mag in my pocket, sure, but we're hunting for trouble. (There's probably a .223 handy, as well . . . .)

On rare occasion, though, the second magazine DOES help balance the off-side of a shoulder rig. ;)

And, all the above being said, I've been known to carry a second handgun.

For CCW, I find dual pouches unrealistic and hard to conceal. What I've been using instead is a single extra magazine in a nylon knife pouch. Extra ammo hidden in plain view! It doesn't look out of place at all with casual wear such as cargo pants, Dockers, etc.

When I'm carrying open, I like to use dual pouches.

EDITED to add: I use single stack magazines. I'm not sure if the stealth on the belt approach would work with a double stack. There aren't many knives that fat except maybe a Leatherman

What I'm thinking of doing is having one belt look magpouch and one Tek-Lok so if I need a spare, I can just snap it on? What do you guys think?

this is a good idea - - I've been using it for several years, but in a different brand.

Safariland makes a line of folded metal appliances which securely hold a magazine and clip onto the belt, like unto some IWB holsters. Dunno what they call this thingy, but I have a couple of 'em I keep in the glove compartment. Easy way to increase ammo supply without having to unbuckle your belt. Also - -They only cost like, seven or eight dollars each. :p

I wish they made something similar for AR magazines. I'm consitutionally unable to get my AR15 out without stuffing an extra mag somewhere . . . .

I use this guys holsters and pistols mag pouches but got creative and made myself one of these. Comes in handy when you have to run off the coyotes at night. :D

Back to the original question, I also wear a single mag pouch on my belt but carry another of the clip on sort around with me just in case.

Ken Null www.klnullholsters.com makes an interesting magazine carrier. It is made to carry a single mag on your ankle. This could be useful for carrying at least one mag. When do you want to be reloading? Crouched or knelt down behind cover, right? Well, there's your magazine.

Well, I called about the belt loop magpouches, and they only come in one size--they can't change belt loop sizes...

Heck Skunk, I gotta friend whom is 4'11" probably has to dance to get wet in the shower. Carries a full size plain jane 1911 style ( Mil-Spec) extra mag,a J frame and there is another gun to boot. It's warmed up here and the other day when I saw her she is wearing all this in Jeans and T shirt.
Cools off , she carries two 1911s and 2 mags.

Galco, HighNoon, and an old Bianchi she altred a bit, is her set up.

TWo 1911 mags or even 2 CZ75 mags are not hard to conceal or very heavy for all day carry. When you try it with 2 .45 or 10mm 10-shot
mags- the story changes. They are heavier and take up more room
on your belt.

I wear a Gould & Goodrich double mag pouch. It has the snap down flaps that cover the end of the mags. I did wear an open top plastic one but the corners of the mags stuck me and the seats in my car.

First of all, second pistol.

After that I wear an open top leather pouch where most folks where their extra mags--but it contains a Leatherman and has a built-in loop for a SureFire E2 as I use both of them a lot more than extra magazines. One extra 1911 mag (fits either pistol) worn SOB.

I make my own leather, Skunk so "customizing" isn't a problem for me. If you know anyone who's into belt tooling or the like, get them to design what you need rather than rely on store-bought goodies that won't work for you. A check in the Yellow Pages might turn up a craftsman who can make what you need.

Heck, it all depends on what is up. A friend has about a 44" waist and fills the entire belt with stuff that he actually uses. Amazing....

Depending on what is going on, and which pants (jeans are perfect, dress pants can be a pain) I'm wearing, a Mernickle double mag pouch is about perfect. One of his mag/surefire holders is due to be ordered soon. One or two of Side Armor's single mag pouches work well, although they are bulkier than Mernickle's. A Gerber multi tool in the rear pocket. Other gear in a ballistic nylon bag is closeby if needed.

And local craftsmen can definitely help quite a bit. One partner has leatherworking and blacksmith skills. A local saddlemaker has made a few special holsters for me. Delivery has been quite a bit faster with both guys, and I get to talk to them face to face.

Outside the waistband is leather. IWB is Kydex.

I like leather. I make my own chaps, two saddles (including a half-pint version for my grandson), rifle scabbards, etc. But...

Due to humidity, sweat and the tight fit of an IWB, I had an IWB leather holster (Kramer, horsehide) form fit my Kimber to the point where it required two hands to remove it--after I had removed my pants. The same thing happened to Louis Awerbuck years ago and he warned me it could happen. I should have listened then.

Primary is a full-size Kimber 1911. BUG is either a twin of the first, or a Kimber Compact.

I use two cqb solutions single mag pouches. I like how I can adjust them around to firt wherever Im sitting, or take one off occasionaly. They also look like multitool pouches which has come in handy a few times.
