My son is watching a used Pearson bow on ebay. In the pics, the bow has been strung improperly - the string is on the wrong side. Can this damage a bow?

As long as theres no reverse tension on the bow it should be fine. A lot of old timers used to store their bows that way.

Thanks.
Next question - is it better to store a bow strung or unstrung? I've been away from the sport for so long I can't remember (or maybe I never knew).

I always store mine unstrung and hung by the string straight up and down. It wont hurt a glass backed bow to leave it strung for a while. With a older bow I would store it unstrung and hung up. If your son wins the Pearson bow post up some pics of it. I love the older bows.

I bought my Pearson in the late 60s for about $40. It's marked 30XX and for some reason I always thought it was a 40 lb pull (30 lbs, correct?) My son wants a little more power (just target shooting) but I still like mine (the shoulder's not as young as it used to be).

Yup I'd say its 30lbs at 28 inch draw. I've always liked Pearson bows. I've had a few. The old Wing archery bows are really nice too.

30xx usually means 32lbs, xx30 usually means 28lbs. The actual weight might be marked under the strike plate.
Almost all glass backed bows made in the last 50 years can be left strung indefinitely but I unstring the bows that I don't shoot regularly because that's how I was taught.
Self bows should never be seft strung=braced.

Thanks for the info.
Is it a big jump in power from 32 lbs to, say 45 lbs? I'm thinking that 45 lbs might be too much for target shooting (for me, anyways).
