Got off the phone with my gunsmith buddy. Seems this particualr customer is changing up guns--again. This is a fellow whom has dropped about $20k in various guns for IDPA, CCW, and 3 gun in about a 18 month time period. This doesn't include accessories and such.

His wife outshoots him btw with an old LW commander bone stock, she competes some with this, her CCW gun. Her 2nd gun is a model 36. She has had both since sometime in the late 70's, early '80's she figures. Her comment, besides threat of divorce, is a new gun company needs to come about, he has run the gamut of existing ones.

Personally, I shot my first 1911 style at age 6. K frame revolvers soon after, then later J frames. My first personal owned centerfire was steel Combat Commander in '73. I carried 1911 style and K frames before this though. So all this time I have stayed with 1911 style, J, K frame for CCW...I don't plan on changing. I just mess with the 1911 styles and old smith revos, that's all I really care about.

So, anybody else stayed with the same gun (s)?
Strayed and come back?
Or still looking for fly poop in pepper like the guy aforementioned changing guns--again?

Don't do polls ( you know me and restrictions ;) )

Feel free to list gun (s) and uses. CCW, IDPA, IPSC, Bullseye, 3 gun, hunting, long guns, shotguns...you get the idea.

No secret I'm 48, so age, time reference is however you want to describe.
Main interest is the serious CCW and serious competitions. But no foul if your favorite 22 plinker is a old High Standard,or Woodsman. I'd agree with you.

I'm not into fads. I find something that works and stick with it 'til it doesn't work for me anymore.

Sounds to me as though your buddy's customer needs to stop pouring money into firearms and start investing some in shooting lessons.

Standing Wolf,
Oh he has been told numerous times "he can't buy skill". He attends gun schools, surf's the 'net , and gets all the catalogs/magazines/reviews...etc.
I think the divorce bit IS VERY serious. We've advised to wise up or lose a good family. Everyone has to hit a bottom...this hopefully is his to wise up-quick! Especially since she and the kids ask him to move out for a bit and get help.

Started off as a skeeter and plinker. I discovered steel plate matches and 3-gun so went to tactical guns that could also do steel. Then I got my CCW which changed the equation, so I thought. I found that I shot my fat gun (92G w/ carbon fiber grips) better and found it to be more reliable than my compact guns that I thought I was going to carry, and it to be just as concealable and comfortable.

I felt like I made the rounds with the handgun and keep coming back to the Beretta. I'm debating giving the 1911 another shot. Between the Beretta and 1911, I should be able to do anything from painting the town to potlucks to weddings and funerals.

Shotguns I've been on semi-autos. I sold the two 26" anti-aircraft guns I have and got a 20" Benelli. Whenever I get the 870 bug, I borrow a pump for a match or a class, but always come back to the Benelli.

Rifles, I seem to shoot people's ARs better than my old M1A, but I don't have that choice. I have little interest in hunting but have a .30-06 as it's the only rifle that is legal in CA that suits my tastes (kind of).

Most of my waffling seems to be with accessories--adapting them to lifestyle changes--going from informal target shooting to competition to carry. I feel like I'm finally settling down but that'll never happen until I get my carbine of choice. I train and compete at any practical opportunity which gives me a chance to evaluate my gear. I went through a phase I wanted all the black nylon but found that carbon fiber colored plastic works best for me since I still have to walk around town without cops that dress similarly descend upon me ;) The draw is quicker and is easier to conceal, and while less durable and retention, and I'm not a soldier so the disadvantages are moot.

I like to have a wide variety of things, but whenever I get/try/buy a new handgun I keep going back to my Glock 24P from days gone by. With it's long sight radius, low recoil, big holes, and the "competition" features it came with (3.5 lbs trigger, extended mag release) and the one I added (extend slide catch) I just shoot it better than anything else I've come accross. I've had an HP USP Compact in 40 which I traded tward a Bushy M17S. I still have my Buckmark 5.5 nickle target (everyone needs a .22) a Taurus 669 and a Desert Eagle in .50 AE with a .44 barrel so I can shoot it "cheaply".

For long guns i've got quite a variety and they all have their place, I need more shotguns though, just have the one Remington 11-87 Skeet. Want something shorter. Maybe a truck gun. I've been looking for an excuse to get a Mossberg 500 Bullpup to sit next to my new Bushy M17S. Which both look out of place next to the Weatherby, Browning High-Wall, and CZ 550 but fit in just fine with the FAL wanna-be.
