Do you not have a load data manual? If you do (especially Lyman's 48th or 49th). Look it up. Most any of the 115 grain JHP specs will suffice. Lyman's 48th lists the Hornady bullet.

I have the Lee load book but for JHP it doesn't have many powder choices, none of which i can get right now. Found the blue dot charge in the Sierra book but it didn't give me an OAL with that powder.

recipe for 9mm with blue dot or IMR 4227Yep, definitely need a Reloading book. Blue Dot is doable, if not the best choice, but 4227 just won't work.

Speer #13 gives 7.7 to 8.5 grs of Blue Dot with 115 Gr bullets. Start low and work up as pressure signs allow.

Get a good reloading book and read it thoroughly. Then ask as many questions as you like with a better understanding of what you are asking.

Hornady's manual list an OAL of 1.075 with the 115 grain XTP. I normally load mine just a tad longer, and have excellent results using 1.10 +/- .005. I'd think anything from 1.08 to 1.10 should put a smile on your face.

Alliant has a Load Data site (http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/default.aspx) like all the other powder manufacturers. They list a Max charge of 8.5gr Blue Dot for a 115gr Gold dot bullet in the 9mm.

I usually look at the manuals I own and double check with the powder manufacture's data. I would not use 4227 in a 9mm especially with such a light bullet. It's way too slow a powder for that application.

IMR-4227 is Magnum pistol or small rifle powder.

Not at all suitable for the small 9mm case capacity.
You couldn't begin to get a full charge in the case.

Blue Dot is only suitable with full-tilt boogy loads.

For loading 9mm rounds with a 115gr or 124/125gr bullet I use W231 for target ammo. (jacketed or lead bullets) For hotter ammo I like Longshot, especially with a jacketed bullet.
