I just ordered Remington #10 and #11 percussion caps from Cabela's for $47.99 per thousand (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0006579210239a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=remington+caps&Ntk=Products&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1). Cabela's had been backordered for quite a while on the Remington #10's. The CCI brand #10's and #11's don't seem to be experiencing the same availability issues. Anyway, they are the cheapest I've found in stock for the Remington's. On a side note, Dixie Gun Works is seems to be gouging (imho) for the same item (http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?products_id=3724) at $7.25 per hundred. In fact, they seem to rather high on just about everything as compared to other online sources and local vendors. To be honest, I cannot see ordering much from them based on this practice. I'm personally just not cool with anyone so overtly taking advantage of the recent "crisis" in black powder and reloading consumables. The market just doesn't bear that price point on that particular item. Then again, I'm not is a situation where I have to order anything from them - you're situation may be different.

I've also recently ordered Goex 3Fg black powder from Powder, Inc. (http://powderinc.com/catalog/order.htm) and 3fg Swiss black powder from Graf's. (http://www.grafs.com/product/250449) Powder Inc. ran about 2 weeks from ordering to shipping. Graf's wasn't quite so slammed, shipping in about a week after ordering. Both have really good pricing for each product. Graf's has always been extremely responsive to email inquiries about their inventory and shipping times. I really like that outfit.

Hornady and Speer swagged .457 round balls I get locally for a good price. Primarily because of a rather large inventory of new old stock that hasn't reflected the recent price increases from either manufacturer. 200 and 220 grain hand cast black powder pure lead conicals I've gotten from Voodoochile here on this forum. They are super nicely cast and lubed. The 220's from the Walker slap the steel spinners at my range with some serious authority!

I buy my powder from PowderInc, also. I've found the best online prices on swaged roundballs at Mid-South Shooting Supplies, especially Hornady brand. Caps I buy locally due to the HazMat fees (BP isn't readilly available locally, so no option there) & found the best prices for those at Sportsman's Warehouse, but most of those have closed down, I hear.
I recently bought a Lee .500" RB mold from Mid-South. It's not a common size, but not only did they have it in stock but it was cheaper there than anywhere else. I have a good supply of most of the RB's I use, but when I need to restock I'll most likely buy them from Mid-South, their prices seem very good & the shipping time on the mold was very fast.

Dixie may charge more for caps but they have been known to ship a small number of tins without charging any hazmat fee.

Ginormous - Cabela's web site shows Remington caps for $47.95 per thousand as you stated, but there is a note which says UPS charges a $20 hazmat fee per shipment. That makes them $67.95; shipping costs $8.95, for a total of $74.95!

Dixie Gun works charges, as you stated $7.25 for 100 Remington caps ($72.50 for 1000). Shipping is $9.95. There is no separate hazmat charge, so the total is $82.45, $7.50 more than Cabela's.

Is this the 'gouging' you are referring to?

I don't see anyone forced to buy their materials from either place, so I'm not at all sure why you're so worked up about DGW.

By the way, if you do the same (complete) comparison using CCI caps, the difference in cost at your door for 1000 caps is $9.49 in DGW's favor.

DGW: $5.95 per 100, $59.50 for 1000 plus $9.95 is $69.45.
Cabela's: $49.99 per 1000, plus $20 hazmat fee, plus $8.95 shipping is $78.94.

Now, who's taking advantage?

Powder, Inc. is where I usually buy powder from as their prices seem to be the best. I've recently heard Graf's is cheaper, but they don't list their price on the web site so I can't confirm that.

Apples and oranges. Comparing CCI caps, which are NOT experiencing any availability issues, either from online sources or locally, to a better product that IS experiencing availability issues is obfuscation at its best. I can get the CCI and RWS caps locally, but not Remington. So I ordered Remington caps from the better priced retailer, after waiting a considerable time for them to be available again. And at a fair market price.

My purchase was for 2000 Remington caps total, 1000 of each size, along with Triple 777 3F, and Pyrodex P propellants. That $20 hazmat charge was divided over six items. The later items are NOT available from Dixie Gun Works.

And yes, Dixie Gun Works gouges. Defend them all you want, but their prices speak for themselves. I am certainly not worked up about DGW, I simply opt for the better vendors. Those that don't gouge, get my business. Simple as that.

Every retailer has something good to offer even if it's superior customer service or a greater selection of specialty products & parts instead of lower prices. ;)

I ordered some 'Unique' and' Bullseye' also...for my Metallic Cartridge re-loading...and some Primers also.

One nice thing about getting some 3F Black Powder, I can re-load .38Special and a few others the way they were originally intended...which will make some of the old Revolvers happy.
