I have an older Mossberg 5002 that I bought almost 20 years ago. It was the "Persuader" model that just came with the short barrel and pistol grip. I was just at a gun show today and I saw nothing but 500's that had larger 8 shot magazines. Is it possible to buy and install the newer magazine and I would assume I'd need the other barrel since the screw is farther toward the end. These were not the 590's they were 500's. Has anyone done this? Is there a difference in the manufacture of these newer models that prevent this from being done?
Thanks

You'd probably be better off just to buy a new 500 with the long magazine. The parts might well cost as much as the whole gun...

Brownells has a 8 round magazine and 20 inch cylinder choke bbl. kit for 149.95 that fits the Mossberg 500.

Yes, you can. *ALL* 500 barrels, within their own gauge of course, are interchangeable. You'll need a barrel, a magazine tube, and possibly a mag spring if yours isn't long enough. It takes literally ten seconds to accomplish once you have your mag tube loosened. Once you have yours off, and use padded pliers or visegrips on the last 1/2" of the tube ONLY, only put the replacement tube on til it's tight hand tight. Use no tools. They're not necessary.
I always tell anyone that asks to go ahead and buy the 8 shot barrel/mag tube when they buy a new Mossy or Mav 88. Later, if you want, you can buy a 6 shot barrel/mag tube and switch yours out cheaper than it is to buy the six and then switch to the 8.
