We just got done watching Kim Bassinger in a pretty unusual movie called "While She Was Out."

Not to give too much away, it was an interesting story about a woman chased by 4 punks bent on rape and murder, but after fleeing into the woods, gets a lot of milage out of a large adjustable wrench, a folding lug wrench, a road flare, and a large screw driver. They picked on the wrong lady.

Pretty good flick. Great improvising and common sense for Hollyweird. I guess it pays to beware of pretty blonds with little red tool boxes.

Carl,

Thanks for the heads up, and review.

With the passing of Farah Fawcett, I am reminded of her work Extremities, both live theatre, and the movie.

Personally, I feel these were her best works, and the movie is one me and mine have used as a teaching tool to assist ladies, single moms, how to not look like prey, and how to deal with predator using improvised and expedient tools.

In addition , one can glean a lot of other information, such as situational awareness, and mindset.

Anyone, no matter if male or female, young or old, whole or physically limited, can learn quite a bit from Extremities, and it sounds like While She Was Out, is another one can learn from.

Farah did a very impressive job in Extremities. This was of the same ilk. What was interesting, was in the special features part of the DVD, was the interview with Kim Bassinger, on how she had worked with and known some abused women, and how they had to find themselves by fighting back.

It was a shinning example of how any object can be pressed into use by a person, too protect themselves. Movies like this should be required viewing by all women. If it gives them hope, then the will to act.

The movie "Hard Target" featured an arrow firing gun powered by compressed air. I looked up the specs and they actually make such a gun. (Swivel Machine Works) Basically, the hollow arrow fits over the barrel of the gun. A release of compressed air fires the arrow. This gun can fire a 320 grain arrow at over 600 fps. They also make a firearm version that uses 22 rimfire or 44 magnum blanks to fire the arrows-even more velocity.

This reminds me of something kind of funny, and maybe sheds some insight into how humans are natural tool users and it can sort of be "bred out of" us.

I remember, from ages 6-11 or so, every time I saw a movie where a Non-firearm Weapon was available to the victim, I would think "Why doesn't he/she use it? That [phone/stick/cup] would worrk so well, and the bad guy isn't even looking!" Eventually I got used to seeing no one fight back even when they had a chance, unless of course they had a GUN.

Makes me think movies are sometimes responsible for people being conditioned out of quick thinking. They see "heroes" who only escape through luck or using a gun, not heroes who improvise (in most cases).

The same thought has gone through my mind more than a few times. I really do believe that Hollyweird is part of the dumbing down of America, and the elevation of the gun to magic wand levels. Most people now assume that if you don't have a gun, you're dead meat. I see it right here in the THR forum statigies and tactics. "Pull my gun' seems to be the most common form of meeting any kind of threat, never mind the big grey thing between your ears.

The human body has not changed much in 30 thousand years. Surprise, surprise, man has been killing man all that time with no firearms. A club or blade still works as well today as it did for the ancients.

Pretty blond Kim Basinger does a lot to knock that BS out with her little red tool box.

In fact, I think this movie should be required viewing for high school girls home ec classes.

A gun worked pretty well on michael Myers in the 2007 version of Halloween.
