I am really intrigued by the Chinese made Model 87 12 ga. lever gun and am curious as to reliability. For some reason I had not seen one before until a gun show this weekend. If nothing else I am attracted to the way the dang looks - it just looks MEAN as hell and I want one !!!!!

Any Model 87 owners out there with comments?

The 87's are neat shotguns but it depends on what you want it for as to what kind of work they need. I think if you just like them and want one aside from a stiff action you should have no problems. There are people running them is CAS because when working properly you can drop two shells into the chamber at once making a quick follow-up shot.

Coyote Cap is probably the top authority on these guns. His web site has some interesting information along with a list of problems they have seen in the 87's and possible fixes. Although reading it can be a little discouraging keep in mind it is written from the perspective of competition shooters, we like our guns to run a better than most companies deliver them.

The Winchester 87 is what Arnold used in Terminator 2, if you are interested in the shotgun it's worth re-watching even though what he does with it is a little far fetched.

I shoot with three people who regularly use Model 87's. Two of them are really fast with them, but the third one just hasn't gotten the hang of loading two shells yet, and is always fumbling with it. Of course, this is during a match, when the mind turns against you and makes easy tasks really, really difficult..........

They are interesting guns, but I still prefer my Model 97's.

Hope this helps.
