What moulds are you looking for? Several local shops here (Atlanta area) have Lee Precision moulds in stock, primarily the single cavity .375 and .454 / .457 roundball variety. I can find out what's in stock and forward their contact info to you.

Track of the Wolf seems to have Lee conical moulds in stock as well:

I have tried every way to find some cheap lyman molds. 440,490,530 and revolver 454,457. I would like lyman double cavity. Or anything at the right
price.. I was told lyman is the best, have handle.
thankyou

I have had good luck with Lee molds. I have tried many. I just got a Lee .45 conical and real bullet mold for $19.00. I'll let you know how it works.

Lee has aluminum mold blocks and include the handles. More bangs for the bux IMHO.

PS they came from Mid South in about 1 week to Washington state.

Are you looking for round ball, conical or minie ball mould.

If you are not going to cast 1000's of rounds, the Lee mould is excellent value for the quality. The only thing is that over the long haul, they generally don't stand to heavy use.

You can expect to pay $40.00 up for Lyman moulds.

Ditto on Lee. Inexpensive. Easy to use. Molds great ammo. Easy to find too at Midway and other places.

The Doc is out now.

Hawkeye, Where do you get lyman molds for $40? I also like the last post from Hygene, where did you find one that does 6 at a time. Can you do six round balls at one time? Even Though my freinds tell me to stick with lyman,
I think I'll try Lee. You can buy 2 molds for the price of 1 Lyman. and they are double cavity, I'll give it a try on two sizes, 530 and 440. They are the ones I shoot the most. And I'm not planing on doing 1,000's of rounds.
Thank you

They do have molds that cast six at a time. This mold casts 1 round ball and 1 Rifle Engagement At Loading, REAL, bullet at a time (this is assuming that you choose to pour both cavities). At the point in the casting session that I took the picture I cast both cavities 5 times. I threw two of each back because of wrinkles or casting imperfections. After the mold warms up keeper rate goes over 90%.

Running some numbers one gets about 55 125 gr balls for a pound of lead, or 35 Real bullets, or 20 each of 1 ball and 1 conical ( a full throw of the die). I get scrap wheel weights for .25. lb at a metal recycling place. At $1.40 or 1.50 a lb one can recast shotgun shot ($35 for 25 lb). Hornady cast .440 balls are currently priced around $9/100, conicals are .50 to 2.00 each depending on brand. You can cast your own for under .50 for 100 balls in wheel weights or a little over $3 for recast shot.

More money can be saved by cutting your own patches which run .05 to .09 cents apiece. There are systems out there for making your own percussion caps but they have Not proven reliable for me (I would go to flint if I were trying to save money in that area).

Hope this helps.

It helps a lot, now I think I'll buy .440 double cavity molds from Lee. That is for my favorite rifle that I shoot the most. A Penn. long rifle from pedersoli. About a month ago I bought 230 lb. of real lead for $60.00. Then i buy pillow ticking
by the yard. Then I use moose milk or hand lotion, which depends on what rifle I use. If the Lee mold does a good job. I'll buy some other cal. And if you think about it you can almost buy three Lee's for the price of one lyman.
Thanks for all the help.

I have one of those too. The Pedersoli manual (for another gun in many languages) rates max load at 38 gr bp. Let us know what works for you.

I already have a single cavity 357. It came with the furnace when I bought it used. I'm still in the learning stage. The guy that is teaching me said if I buy molds for all the diffarant cal's. They should be double and made by Lyman. He told me they are made out of steel and won't oval out. Lee, he said the are cheap and don't last long. But, then there is a lot of people saying Lee's are just as good. I have not bought any yet. But I have made about a 100 357. Just to try out both the mold and the furnace. I can see how a double mold would realy make a diffarance.
