Is there anyone here who only owns gun/guns for self defense/home defense/concealed carry?

I certainly enjoy playing with them, but the reason I've got 'em is for HD (no (actual) CCW here in Maryland).

That said, as time goes on I think I would enjoy pistol competitons and trap shooting.

Only? Nope ... that applies to just four for CCW/HD .... all else is interest, collection and the variety of shooting.

I initially bought my first guns for self & home defense

Same here. When I bought my first gun it was for SD only and the only one I owned for a long time. It was later on that I started collecting.

At the moment all I use 'em for is HD, but that's not by choice. If I had more hours in my week and dollars in my pocket, I'd shoot IPSC and probably clays. Do a lot more hunting, too.

I suppose tht all of my guns are SD weapons. Some are better than others for this purpose. The 1911s and shotguns come to mind.

Bolt-action target rifle wouldn't be first choice.

Plinking and HD/SD are my main applications. Other than that, just "because I want it." I mean, there was no legitimate HD reason to buy my Marlin 1894C levergun. I like it, and yes it would be quite effective in an HD situation, but there are less expensive / more effective solutions. But I wanted one. Same goes for a single-action revolver, which I currently don't own but plan to one day.

What he is asking is...

"Do any of you ONLY own guns for SD? Meaning, you get no joy in plinking, target shooting, competition shooting, reloading, collecting, hunting, etc. SD ONLY"

MaterDei has it right. I was just curious about who might just own a gun as someone would own a hammer or any other tool. To fill a specific need and none other.

I know that most here are gun people, but I'm sure that there are those who only have a gun for protection.

I enjoy shooting and hunting and sometimes I like to just sit and hold my guns. But if I were not into guns, I think that I would want one for protecting my family and myself.

I doubt you're going to find too many "Self Defense Only" types here because those that are only interested in self defense aren't likely to hang out someplace where you talk about guns.

nope, I dont even keep a loaded gun around, home defense shootings are
a rarity here, Ive never even heard of a home defense shooting around here.

All of my guns are for self-defense.
None of my guns are for defense ONLY.

I've only recently become interested in guns for defense. I think it's mainly been a hobby for me since I've always lived in very safe areas and have good situational awareness. Now I want CCW to pass here in KS in a bad way and next time out to the range I'll be practicing drawing from a holster again. Haven't done that since the last "combat match" I participated in.

SD only? Well, it started out like that, but grew from there :D

I own handguns that are SD/CCW only. A P-32 is a great CCW pistol, but not good for much else.

OTOH, it is decently fun to plink with.

I'm a little confused on what you're asking...

Are you asking if we own guns that are dedicated to self-defense use, and nothing else, or are you asking of there are people where whose sole handgun possessions are ONLY for protection?

If the first, I have numerous guns that I think of only as guns for protection.

If the second, nope, not me. :)

If that includes practicing with them, then yes, several.

I have fun guns, utility guns, and some (like my 1911) that are both.

I consider my shotgun to be for HD only - I don't really like shotguns in general (admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience with them either) and I don't enjoy shooting them (12ga, anyway, has too much recoil to be "enjoyable"). But there's nothing better for close-range defense.

Of the 4 handguns I've "borrowed permanently" from my husband's collection, only the .22 is really more for plinking than SD/HD. I carry a P32 in my pocket when I'm not carrying my purse that has a holster for the .45 ACP. The P11 sits on my computer desk.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I own just for hd/SD. The target shooting I do is to keep my skills sharp so I can hit the BG wherever I want, whenever I want.

Nawwwww. They're fun to shoot and if SD becomes a need, at least I'm armed.

I own firearms solely for self / home defense.

That is to say:

Every firearm I have bought has been selected based on it's suitability as a self / home defense weapon. For example my shotguns are short barreled, high capacity models maximized for effectiveness and ease of use in and around the home.

And:

I don't hunt or go in for target-competition shooting, so my only motive for owning firearms is for self / home defense.

Ah. That would be my wife. She wanted to own a firearm effective for SD. She has no interest in them otherwise. And no, you wouldn't find her on this forum. She's a nice person but she has no interest in firearms beyond basic utility.

No. I have quite a few guns that are pretty much useless for SD/HD.

Even the few guns that I've purchased primarily for SD or HD get some play time.

What crime is not on the rise? Here in Wichita, in the past five years, non english speaking :cuss: have this city on guard. It's the home breakins, car jackens, drug sale's. I know It's like this no matter were we go, here in Kansas we can't save are own ???. I have my handgun's for all the right reasons. If we pass the CCW law here in Kansas I'll be a Fat Old Man playing hockey in hell.

I own no guns. The ones I don't own are NOT for SD, but only for politically correct Hunting. Only guns needed for sporting purposes are necessary, so that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
