It would be easier to answer your question if you were more specific about the model or models of High Standard you're asking about.

I have a Supermatic Citation Model 106 Military .22LR Pistol. It is amazing.
I think it was bought new for around $600 many years ago.
I could be wrong.

They are apparently manufactured in the Philipines by Armscor, the same people who make Rock Island Armory 1911s.

I have a compact model but haven't had time to shoot it yet.
I paid $401 plus shipping from Lipsey's.
Mine came with:
Beveled mag well,
Skelitol hammer and trigger
polished feed ramp
Novak style sights
Quality is as good or better than my RIA 1911.

I like the way the safeties look on those. They are wider but not extended. I have never really liked the extended ones but thought the GI style ones could be a little wider for better manipulation when things get dicey.

I have a High Standard 1911 GI spec pistol that I bought slightly used. Through 120 rounds of both round nose and semi-wadcutter bullets, it's been 100% reliable. Accuracy is very good as well. It was made by Armscor in the Philippines and the quality seems to be excellent.
I'd buy another without hesitation.

Alright guys, I normally spend my time in the shotgun and rifle forums being my experience is there. I would like some help from yall if youd.
I saw a high standard goberment .45 at my gun shop yesterday. They said I could have it for $400 or for a few dollars more I can get the shorter combat model, two of each just came in. Fit an finish look really great and trigger pull feels like three pounds on the combat and four on the goberment. I had been looking at a layaway on a .40 smith and wesson M&P for $439 which also is an awesome price.
I have always wanted a .45 but they have always been out of reach. I want to get the high standard but I do not want to buy a gun that will be a mistake. Should I stay with the .40 which I have fired and know? :uhoh:

Rshooter I would go with a 45 over the 40. I am not impressed with the S&W auto loaders. The 2 I bought where junk, POA and POI usually deviated greatly. High standard has been making quality guns for years that are affordable. If you found one you liked I wouldnt hesitate, two is not a big number.

Rshooter, see my post #9. I can't say it much better. The High Standard 1911 is a fine pistol and I really like mine. I don't think you can go wrong..... especially for $400 new.

My dad gave me a series 104 Highstandard Supermatic Trophy. Still has the original box and goodies. Its worth somewhere around $900 - $1,000.
