I carry a Glock 17 9mm on the job with Speer 124 grain Gold Dots as the issued ammo. I recently tried four, inexpensive 9mm practice ammo brands for same accuracy; and same point of impact at 15 yards.
First, I tried a box of the Walmarts Win 9mm 115 FMJ; the value pack. I was pleasantly surprised at the four-inch head shot groups I was getting at the 15 yard line. No jams either.
Secondly, I tried the CCI Blazer, 115 FMJ load. Again no jams, and I got a slightly tighter 3-4 inch group with a box fired at the head at 15 yard line (B-27 target).
Thirdly, (moving up in price here), I tried the Federal American Eagle 9mm ammo, 124 grain stuff. Better groups still; now averaging 3" inches at the 15 yard line. (By the way all my shooting was done using the isolecse stance and two-hand hold).
Fourthly, we come to the most accurate round out of my G17, and that is the Speer Lawman, 124 grain TMJ. I was getting an honest 2" inch group, hand-held, at the 15 yard line. My G17 has the 8-pound NY1 trigger.
As you can see, some ammo testing will let you better know what your gun likes and dislikes.
