Plinking in Los Angeles Area?

Outside of the official ranges, where can I go "plinking" or shooting my own "trap" legally in the Los Angeles area? I've seen all these pictures of people shooting out in the middle of nowhere and am quite envious of their freedoms.

How far are you willing to drive? Most of the places that you can shoot unrestricted you have to drive a couple hours to get to.
Watch for Mauserlady to post when she's going to do a shoot by Rosamond, it's a small place to shoot but a good place. If she doesn't post it here, watch Calguns for it.

Anybody know the same thing about the San Diego area? I really enjoy outdoor quarry and gravel pit shooting, but I don't know anywhere around here to go.

Try the Forum parking lot, lots of room late at night and the gunfire just fits right in. :D

For true plinking, you'll have to do some driving out into the desert :( I use to go out to Lydle Creek (it's been more than 10 years since I've been there), but I haven't been since I saw gang bangers practicing their drive bys

Get your map out and ready to read.
Being that people are moving further and further out of L.A. and ALL of the close firing ranges that were unregulated have now been closed (mostly due to people not picking up their friggin trash) you'll have to drive further.
Here's a few directions you can go from L.A., 1) take the 5 north to the 14 north out past Mojave, once past Mojave you can just pick a spot. I have shot and know people that shoot from Jawbone Canyon all the way to Bishop. 2) From Mojave to Barstow anywhere north of the 58 you can shoot everything, there are some areas SOUTH of the 58 that are shotgun only, best to stay north. From Barstow you can either take the 15 or 40 and when you have driven far enough away from Barstow just take one of the dirt roads that lead out into the desert. There are plenty of hills off the 40 that have dirt roads that will take you to them, it's best to use one of the hills as a backstop. Make sure to keep an eye out for 4 wheelers and dirtbikes as they are usually out there on weekends.
One last thing, if you pack it out there, pack it back out! Either that or build a fire pit and burn it, if people keep trashing the desert they are going to close what's left of it.

Bogie, ;) not yet...:p
I usually go out past Mohave and then past Cal city and pick a dirt road to the left up into the hills.Usually pine tree canyon. You have to drive under the aquaduct (7'4" I think) and just choose a spot, or drive further and over the next aquaduct further up the canyon, its all good....:scrutiny:

50 shooters right, the place we go is just outside of Rosamond and it's a great place to go as well as probably the closest for you. Depending on where you're at it should take approx. 1.5 hrs to get there. Most of the time when I plan our shoots out there first timers will meet at my house and follow us out. Not that difficult to find but definitely easier I think once you've been there.
Next shoot is definitely on for 11/8. If you're interested in joining us eitherdrop me an email or PM me... I'll be posting aobut it as soon as I get a chance...
(P.S. - Got you email Shawn, just not a lot of time)

One more thing, this is concerning AW's on BLM land. They had an Internal Memo out, No.CA-2003-049 that states:
Persons have the permission of the BLM to possess and use firearms, including lawfully registered AW's, on BLM-administered public lands except where prohibited by other applicable laws and regulations.
M/L, got your email. Let me know a few days before you go out.
