KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City firefighter was arrested for allegedly trying to steal a woman's purse outside a local bar Sunday night, KMBC's Maria Antonia reported.

According to court documents, 42-year-old Hank Crutchfield used force to try to take a woman's purse outside Boomer's Bar. When security tried to stop Crutchfield from leaving, punches were thrown, and then Crutchfield allegedly bit one of the bouncers on his hand.

Police showed up, but officer Joe Wellington said Crutchfield wouldn't stop fighting.

"No, he didn't just give up. He resisted the arrest. The officers deployed cap stun, and that was what it took to bring him under control," Wellington said. "It appeared he was drinking, but to what level we don't know."

Crutchfield has been charged with felony second-degree robbery for the alleged incident.

The Fire Department released a statement that described Crutchfield as a "fire apparatus operator." The department said Crutchfield was off-duty at the time of his arrest. They said the incident is a personnel matter, and they will not comment further. According to department personnel, Crutchfield worked out of Station No. 19.

Crutchfield remains in police custody. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

A good reminder that the SHTF can happen anywhere to anyone (and that bars can be dangerous inside or out). I guess security didn't have mace/cuffs of their own. Sounds like good work by them anyhow. Let's hope this tough guy gets a room without a view for a while...

15 years? Seems like that's a really long time compared to what murderers serve.

That's a maximum, unlikely he'll get it.

Agreed, the media usually posts the maximum time (consecutive) that a person could be sentenced to, which is often a far cry from what they recieve.
