I had a buddy of mine who owed me a custom .30-06. He's been unable to complete it due to multiple BS factors in his life. In any case he offered to make our deal whole about a month ago with a substitute rifle. And pretty uncommon one at that.

He had an almost NIB Hannibal rifle in .338 A Square. I jumped at the idea because I've never owned an A2 rifle and they are a neat little piece of American wild cat rifle history,.

First off this rifle is in 100% condition it doesn't have the first scratch on it. Second it's built like a brick scat house. The thing is built around a big Enfield action and barreled with a stainless medium contour barrel then the whole thing is Teflon coated. It is stocked in a fully bedded, cross bolted and somewhat infamous "coil check" stock. It is one serious piece of wood. My estimation is that a man with small hands would find it uncomfortable to grip at the pistol due to the thickness of it.

It is equipped with a Timney trigger which is set to break at about 2.5 crisp lbs. The round it self is basically a .338/378 with a modified shoulder. It pushes a 250 gr SGK @ 3125 FPS. So it is actually a stouter round than a .338 Lapua. I haven't shot it yet as I need a telescope for it.

Oh it came with 200 loaded factory rounds and a set of reloading dies. Range report to follow. Don't you just love getting a new rifle in the house?:D

picture, and RANGE REPORT, ASAP..... and I'd better be involved in the latter!

It really is a phenomenal looking rifle; heavy, but shoulders like a work of art. Your buddy must like you or something.

It's hard to believe but that is a .338 slug sitting on top of that case. It looks like it should be a small bore of some kind with that big fat case!!

first off, what is a 'HANNIBAL' RIFLE? and you are right, it looks like a 6.5 or 7mm bullet on top of that case; that is way impressive.

but could ya make that grip and not have it split after 10 rounds? there's more to that grip than meets the eye.

He's right the stock design on the Hannibals was a major complaint. They're still awesome though.

It brings back memories of a couple '17's that I had in my younger days. A 300 H&H Mag and a 30'06.
H&Hhunter, you're certainly fortunate to have that fine rifle.
Good luck.

Don't worry dude I have an umbrella as you can see from my original post I agree that the Coil check stock is to say the least pretty chunky. Of course the man to register that complaint with is Art Alpin.;)

The Hannibal rifle was the brain child Of Art Alpin of A-Square probably best to Google it because I am not well versed enough in it's history to give a lesson on it here.

I think you'll like it. Buddy had one in .416 Rigby that shot little bitty groups with a 1.5 x 5 Leupold.

The Coil Check stocks suck until you shoot'em. :D That .416 was very pleasant to shoot due to the stock design. Subjective recoil was much less than a .375 and close to a heavy .338 or in other words, nice. We used to joke that it would make a great antelope gun - accurate as heck and easy to shoot.
