As the title states, I need to know how to get a live primer out of a case. I messed up on the cases and didnt resize them all the way, so i gotta do em again. Im using a Lee Classic Loader for .357 Mag, just in case yall need to know.
Thanks

No. It is perfectly safe. Plenty of threads on it. It's done all the time.

I just punch 'em out like I do with dead primers, just a little more gently is all. Never had a problem.

Gunlaw: Take out the decapping pin and run the cases back through the sizing die.
Read carefully. What's being suggested is to completely remove the decapping pin from the sizing die. This way when you re-size the case, the primer will not be disturbed.
Follow?

Be careful. I have punched out more than a few, but I am always slow and easy.

Well i was using a Lee Classic Loader so resizing without takin the primer out was not an option...at least i feel that it wasnt...safety first..lol

I got a batch of 5000 mixed cases, some that were alreay primed. I have punched several hundred live primers and only popped a few. It is just a loud puff and smelly smoke- nothing was damaged.

I've made more mistakes than I'd like to admit to and never had a live primer go off when decaping them. I've even reused the same primers and they all went bang. ;)

I have used oil....squirted into the case...it disables the primer...and makes it a bit safer. I don't want to mess with losin my last good eye, so I go the extra length.

JWW I dont think there is any absolutely reliable way to deactivate a primer, short of firing it. At least that is what I have heard/read on the net.

I have punched several hundred live primers and only popped a few.Sorry, but you are being careless if you pop any at all.
Oil can not be relied on 100%, and is a waste of a good primer anyway.
Resize without the decap assembly in the die and reload the brass, or just decap slowly. Safety glasses are not a bad idea on the outside chance, but even if it goes off, it will be contained in the die.
