launch against Israel?

This is something that's bothered me since day 1 of Iraq. I have this uneasy feeling,,that if "pushed" hard enough (probably by international embarrasement over supplying Iraq),,France would do the unthinkable and try to score points with the Arab world.

So I take that as you think GB's one Trident (with AFAIK a 14 day deployment time) is a match for the frogs' 4?

Good idea, Hal. Give the French forces someone new to surrender to.

But, the French have no need to score points with any other countries. They are above all that. They are, after all, French. :)

Speaking of tinfoil, is it true the Brits packed the Chunnel with high explosives, just in case the French decide to invade in a northerly direction (again)?

Regards.

SleepingDog - they will not invade in a northerly direction. They will RETREAT in a northerly direction.

But just think of all those French arms laying around the countryside - well maintained, never fired, thrown down only once ........

Of course they will. Right about the time RuPaul gives John Ashcroft a lapdance live on nationwide TV (in stereo where available).

France is in a peculiar position...

They have a Muslim population that is quickly growing in size and influence, and it's causing growing internal problems and concerns.

Muslim crimes against Jews are skyrocketing in some areas of France.

Would France, though, launch a nuclear strike against Israel? Doubtful, given that it would likely provoke a combined Isralie/American response.

France is in a peculiar position... Not only that they don't have Joan of Arc to lead them. The last man who was ever in charge of the French Army. :uhoh:

France has been notable antisemitic for years. Remember the Dreyfuss case? They also collaborated with the Nazis during the Holocaust to deport the Jews.

A survey was done of historians. The game was to pretend it was 1913 and predict what country would become as monstrous as the Nazis. No one predicted that Germany would be that genocidial. The historians said that based on national history and culture - they would have picked France and Turkey as countries that could carry out a holocaust.

It is time basically to write France off.

If you are talking about a nuclear attack Israel is so small that it would effect Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, etc.

If you are talking about a conventional attack well how many hours would it take France to surrender?

No offense, but did anything in particular inspire you to ask this outlandish question?

The US is too large for 4 nukes to destroy us, or eliminate our ability to respond. After western Europe stopped smoking, we would no doubt have a lot of picking up to do back home - maybe even be launched into a serious downward economic spiral, but even if downtown New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington DC were hit by France (or pick 4 military bases), the US could respond in a timely and heavy-handed fashion sufficient to lay waste to the entire nation of France. I figure a maximum of 12 hours from impact of the first French warhead until the first counterstrike hits. Probably not involving an ICBM but quite possibly nuclear.

Of course, this is not an issue anyway. France won't nuke us. We make fun of them a lot, but they are more than capable of realizing that with or without nukes, we can reduce their nation to rubble - and they have nothing to gain from doing so in the first place. Scoring points with the Arab nations does not require suicidal strikes on the US.

Last figures I saw on France said the country had a 10% muslim population experiencing a high rate of growth vs a population contraction elsewhere in France.

France is an Islamic toehold in Europe.

Hmm - looks like they need a new Charles Martel or maybe a Roland...

No offense taken.

To answer your question:

Yes. Recent comments made by Mahathir Mohamad prompted my question.

World reaction (really lack of reaction) to the comments.
Particularly Chirac's response/timing of the response. - Lack of response for the head of "New France" aka Canada.

...invade the US?

This is something that's bothered me since day 1 of the world championships. I have this uneasy feeling,,that if "pushed" hard enough (probably by international embarrasement over losing some hockey game), Canada would do the unthinkable and try to score points with the rest of the sports world.

Yes, the canucks are too quiet up there. We should invade them on principle, before they can carry out their nefarious plans. Heck, they deserve it just for inflicting Celine Dion and Peter Jennings on us.

They were right about Turkey in 1913; just a few years later they were getting rid of their Armenians. (But the historians knew that--which makes their choice of France even more interesting!)

agricola,
RE: Recent news (France (March 2004)) does this still seem as far fetched?
