Slugs through a MOD choke 12 gauge...

I've heard some say that sabot and regular slugs can be fired through a shotgun with a modified choke.

I've heard just as many say that one should never fire slugs through any 12 gauge that's choked.

What's the true "skinny" on firing slugs through a shotgun with a modified choke?

Thanks!

just shoot them through the choke

use foster style slugs as they are made undersized for this purpose

Try this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=459519

I think the you're asking about that is not covered in that thread is that sabots are for fully rifled bores, rifled slugs are for smooth bores. IMO, you will destroy your threads if you shoot a slug through a bore with no choke, making it impossible to screw a choke in later if you want to.

Both can be fired through a shotgun with no ill effect. However, the sabot will only gain its full accuracy if it is fired through a rifled barrel or at least a rifled choke.

Wrong. The best accuracy with a non-sabot type slug will usually be from an IC choke, but no harm will come to the gun or you if it is choked.

Again will cause no harm, but will probably be less accurate than it would be if fired through an IC choke.
