[Rebel Gunman HK]

I handled a Dan Wesson 1911 at a store a while back and was really impressed with the way it felt. Even thought it felt slightly nicer than my Springfields. I always read about other 1911 manufactures; Colt, Spring. Kimber, Ed Brown, STI, Wilson, S&W, Les Baer. But I never hear anything about DW. Also noticed that the prices on the DW were comperable to the Springers at this shop I visited. So what Im wondering is.. does anyone own one? Shot one? I fully expect them to be as good as anything else out there... but Im curious anyway. I know their revolvers have good reputations.

Check out the 1911 forum , you will find tons of information there.
I bought a DW Pointman Major and have had no problems through about 1500 rds, very accurate gun.

I bought in Dan Wesson Patriot Expert back in about March. I've used it for IPSC and 3Gun, and put about 10,000 rounds through it in that time.

It's a solid gun.

I'm 'sort of' in the middle of a trade - waiting to hear from a guy to ship his springfield to me, but if it all falls to peices, would you be interested in trading one of your stainless 1911's for a Dan Wesson Stainless Panther?

I bought the DW slightly used from Gunbroker.com, and sadly found out that Dan Wessons are ILLEGAL here in CA. Too late! I already paid for it. So it remains at my local gun shop. :-(

I'm gonna give the guy I'm dealing with a few more days to find a shop to ship his gun from, and if that incurs too much expense or if he doesn't come through, I'm all for a trade!!!

They grow on you. I hated them too, and was skeptical of the external extractor.

A word of caution about hanging out in the Dan Wesson section of the 1911 forum; it may lead to the owning of several different models ! Currently own three myself, including one of the 10mm Razorbacks.

I have 3 DW 1911,A patriot .45 and 2 9mm.All three have many,many rounds down range and I have had no problems what so ever with them.These guns are Very accurate and reliable.

S&W and Kimber make their own parts BTW. DW was going around looking for the cheapest "less" Money could buy. :barf: Each got "the soup of the day".

Uhmmmm NO. Kimber has used CMC parts since before the dawn of time.
They were designed by McCormick and he sells the parts he designed and made for Kimber, as his own.
S&W supplies Kimber their frames and slides..other than that..I cant say S&W uses the same MIM parts as Kimber...

And if you've seen Bren on 1911forums, you'd know it is a waste of time to argue with him. Not because he's right, but because he is impervious to information. Can't seem to separate fact from opinion, either.

I didn't say Kimber MIM parts were good, just that they made their own. Yes, they are a CMC design but Kimber makes their own parts.

The frame and slide "Forgings" come from S&W which are some of the best and then milled in house. DW uses the same " Forgings" on there upper end guns but the lower end guns including the Panther uses Essex CAST frames and slide or just the frame.

Bob himself admitted using "masson" mag releases after they were breaking. :rolleyes:

Go ahead and slam the Brenster but it was I who got DW to stop putting huge logo's all over their guns and to offer no front serrations, rear sights that can move for windage and so on.

Most of "BREN" has been stricken from the record do to people that can't handle a straight talker. The board erases thead after some time so the PROOF AND FACTS are all but gone.

But at the top of the board is a hint from days gone by.

Here is your chance to participate directly. As we get started with a custom shop (if that is even what we should call it), we are going to need a logo. We want to be subtle, and people like ***Bren**** have already convinced us to tone down the lasering, so help us come up with a classy logo or lasering package to put on these guns.

So we are going to throw it out to the forum and take suggestions. Draw something up and submit it and we will either select a design or modify one and adopt it. Kind of cool because this stuff will end up in magazines and at the SHOT Show and such.

I guess jpg format or bmp would be nice but I think I can work with most anything. So get thinking and over the next few weeks lets see if we can't make a selection.

Alot of people at the DW board are in denial but the fact is , you can catch them admitting the very same thing they try to hide which is bad parts.

My theory has always been that if you are the new kid on the block you have to try and be BETTER than the rest. Choosing cheap charlie parts was a bad move IMO and for a few $$ more they could have been what they claimed. Bren

Despite all your omniscient wisdom, that is in fact NOT a stainless panther. It is a custom piece I called Dan Wesson about and they kindly and very skillfully assembled a very tightly fit, very well finished, accurate, reliable, and in my opinion, gorgeous 1911 which I was completely unable to get anywhere else with the specific list of features I wanted.

Bren is biggest DW thread hijacker of all time, oh yeah, that's why they banned him several times from 1911forum, under several different alias's. He was one the nicest guys on the forum at one time, then something happened and it was a sad day from then on.
