what's a good gift for a group of most excellent cops?

A close friend who has some mental problems was just involved in a situation that could very, very easily have turned into an armed standoff or suicide-by-cop, but did not thanks to the Nashua police. They quickly talked him into surrendering peacefully. They were not trigger happy or rough with him. They did not ransack his apartment, and took only what was on the search warrant.

They were very professional, helpful and polite to me as well, and totally pro-gun.

I can't praise these guys enough. I was going to get them a fruit basket but I thought you guys might have other suggestions. There were a lot of cops there so it should be something for them all.

When I was in uniform we had rules about gratuities....at least the official kind. How about a nicely worded letter to the chief?

The smartass in me wants to do the obvious and mention donuts but.....

Most likely they won't be able to accept any "gifts" of any kind anyway, department policy will probably prevent it. I'd suggest a nice, well written letter of appreciation and maybe a card. Another thought is that you could write a letter to the editor of the local paper praising them.

A letter of acknowledgement to their department superiors would probably be appreciated, and help promote the kind of professionalism they displayed.

A letter to the bosses. These do make differences in promotions.

A letter to the paper. Good work should be commended as strongly as bad work is condemned.

If you like, a donation to the local cop-widows-and-children fund in their names.

Or maby a bit safer, a few issues of the Dillon 2004 calender.

When I was at the police station after giving my statement I asked the receptionist and she said a fruit basket would be fine. I was also planning to write to the chief.

The letter to the newspaper is a good idea too.

There are lots of rules against police accepting gifts designed to prevent corruption. The sentiment is nice, but I don't think it's professional for an officer or department to accept gifts from a citizen.

I had to do it!!!

Sorry!!!:neener:

On a more serious note a letter to the Department would be a great start!

I dont think anyone would have a problem with a nice goody basket in the break room. Would be kinda hard for someone to claim you bribed the cops with candy. A donation is also a great idea.

I know in TX you used to be able to give a gift not in excess of $50 to an LEO. Not sure about where you are.

A good, nice quality pen always goes far.

I'd give kudos to them in the Nashua paper and a donation to the W and C fund.

They may be able to accept a "goody basket"

How about a letter to the Mayor or County Exec, or whatever, as well? Make sure the Chief's boss is aware too of the good work being done by his department.

The above mentioned letters sound good.

Or, you could have a bunch of pizzas delivered.

Maybe hire someone to give massages in the ready room.

I'm glad somebody beat me to it.

How about a pair of shorts like Lt. Dangle wears? They too can be 'law enforcement cheetas'

:D
