Next desert shoot is set and comes complete with B-day cake to shoot at.

It's that time again, time to get together in the desert and throw some brass... This months shoot has the added bonus of landing during my birthday week (yes I get a whole week) and some loon (my hubby actually) got the brainy idea of taking a cake out there for us all to shoot at in celebration... I LOVE IT! ! ! ! !
So why don't you join us on this momentous (not really but it sounds good) occasion and head out to the desert on 11/8 to throw some brass...
Same as always, if you've never been to the spot and want to meet us at our house first email me for directions. Actually you can email me for directions either to the house or to the spot.
I'd say, since it's getting a tad bit chilly in the mornings we should meet at the house around 8:00 and and the spot around 9:00. No it doesn't take that long to get there, I just know we end up chatting a bit before actually getting on the road. Truly only takes about 15 minutes to get there...

I'll do my best to be there, if anyone wants to shoot the .50 I'll wheel it out there. I would bring the 4bbl shotgun but pops has it right now.

Yeah!
I was going to suggest a Bakersfield area shoot to celebate my leaving PRK, so why not make this a dual-theme event!
Mauserlady, you had a web site with pictures of an ealier shoot and directios to the site (aerial photos IIRC). Is it still up?
And YES - I'd love to shoot a .50.

Rosamond is the west end of Edwards right? That is just a tad bit over an hour from my house! Bad news is I have to take the CSET test so I can become a bonafied teacher that day. Darn! Actually, my test is in east Bakersfield at 1330 hours. I could show up for two hours or so...hmmm. Probably not. I think I might rather sleep in for a change on Saturday. Have fun without me.

Count me in! BTW, I'll be doing the "take it apart, clean every individual piece, oil the stock daily for a week" on my Swedish mauser tomorrow, so it should be all ready in time. It's almost just like yours, Mauserlady, except (IIRC) the front sight is different.
Also, what's this about shooting a birthday cake? Don't get me wrong, I'm game. I just want to get this straight: We put a birthday cake out there, give it a blindfold and cigarette, and then . . . ?
And as far as home-made targets goes, are 2-liter soda bottles filled with water a good idea? Last time you used 1-gallon milk jugs filled with water, but I can drink soda a lot faster than milk :D . BTW, as of today, plastic bottles and aluminum cans are gonna be saved and not going to the recycler! What else makes good target? Pumpkins? I might have a lead on a few. Maybe I'll get a watermelon from the market as well  .

50 Shooter, Bring your BIG toy. I didn't get much of a chance to have at it at the last shoot!
I think if anyone wants to bring shotguns we can do some clay pigeon busting as well.
BB, I don't know if we'll "light the candles", but I think we'll certainly blow out the cake! What a great way to feed the critters too!
This is gonna be too cool! Hmm. Can anything really be "too cool"? :)

Hey D,
No problem, just hope that work doesn't get in the way. It has finally started slowing down so I should be okay.
Good to hear you and ML had fun at the desert shoot, you'll have to camp out next time. Don't forget to keep you eye on the bowling balls.:what:

tex_n_cal - Cool beans... Hope to see ya there...
Andrew wyatt - We'll have another one New Years Day...
Kevlarman - 1 to 1.5 hours depending... ESPECIALLY with all the fires closures... Can't get here from the 15 which would be the normal way to come from Riverside...
El Rojo - West of the base... You go through Rosamond to get to Edwards.. We were just up in your area (Lake Ming) yesterday and it took right under an hour to get from the lake to Rosamond...
Sven - It will be (OK, it ususally is...) :D You should try to make it out...
Beetle Bailey - Can't wait to see your Mauser... Even though you've already seen mine we can have show and tell... LOL.... I ordered ammo (IYR I ran out) I sure hope it gets here in time or else I may need to mooch some off ya...
2-ltr's are fine if you can see them... Only restriction on any targets are glass but I know I don't need to tell anyone that... And I ALWAYS save cans and stuff so we'll have plenty between everyone that brings stuff...
Went over to Wallyworld cause they usually have 1.00 pumpkins but I didn't see any... That's all right... I'll wait till they all go on sale after Halloween and grab some also... Halloween Gunny style... :D

Actually, I'll be in Lancaster that weekend visiting my family. Shouldn't take me that long to find the place!
Uh, does anybody have the exact coordinates so's that I can put them into my GPS? :D

Mauserlady, don't worry. I think I've got enough 6.5x55 for the both of us ;) . And the ony way I was even able to see that milk jug we shot up last time was that it foolishly gave away its position by reflecting light off its broadside :D .

I'm gonna try to make it. I posted over on Calguns, might as well post here too.
:)
Can you email me directions to both the house and the "spot"?
Not sure which one I'll meet up w/ you guys and gals, depends on if I wake up in time :D

Someone mentioned bringing shotguns? I have one that I'll bring down.

Kevlarman - Actually very easy to find... Just remember to get into the right hand lane after you turn onto Rosamond Blvd. as the "U-Turn" onto Frontage road does come up quick.
Beetle Bailey - Cools beans... They charged my account yest. so it SHOULD make it here in plenty of time...
Remember, one of the reasons I can see the jugs is cause I help pu them up there so I know where they're at... :D
Mountain Dew 2-ltr's work reall well since it's so brown out there the green stands out...
Black Majik - Email on it's way to you shortly...
By all means bring out your shotgun. David loves to shoot clays...
I was thinkin about pickin up a .410 lever action that I saw in the shop but when I went in there last night to check on the status of my .32 I didn't see it... :( Oh well, next time...

There was some concern, brought up at the calguns.net board, regarding the weather so I wanted to post for you all that may be thinkin of joining us that don't know this area...
You really can't go by what the weather people say (even more so) regarding the weather here. I learned that the hard way to many times when it comes to this area. They are saying the possibility of rain on Sat. Yes, there's always a possibility but in this area it generally gathers steam over us and blows right over without ever shedding a drop... Could be why it's the desert ;)
Anyway... Either 50 Shooter or I (or both) will keep an eye out and keep everyone posted as to what's what... I would really hate for people to come from afar only to have to turn around and go home without ever firing a shot. And on the other hand I would hate to have a repeat of our NYD shoot (that I drove back from Tucson for) where I had cancelled the night before due to the horrid winds that were blowing only to have it be a flawless day after all...

Weather was clear and warm today in Bakersfield. Just got home from a little sight-in / warmup session. Boss was nice enough to let me have off the afternoon of my last day. Like he could've stopped me... :D
