Hey All, my CCW isn't valid in NV. Rumor has it you can get issued a temporary CCW there? Does anyone have any info at all? Also, what is the scoop with open carry in NV? What about Las Vegas specifically?

Nevada doesn't recognize any other state's CCW permits. They do not have temporary permits of any kind. ALthough Nevada is an open carry state, common sense should prevail. Walking down the street in an urban area is not advised. Also, Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, has grandfathered firearms laws more strigent than the State laws. North Las Vegas does not allow firearms to be transported in the city except under very strict guidelines. See the packing.org page for Nevada for more details.
You can forget about legal concealed carry.

According to www.gmj.com/nv_faq.php you can get a non-resident permit in NV, but you will have to complete the training in NV (which is what I sort of remember hearing when I took my class for a NV CCW). I’m not 100% sure how the laws apply to out of state residents, but a firearm is not considered loaded unless a round is in the chamber according to NV law (exceptions will almost certainly apply in Clark county). I’d suggest giving those people a call to find out the particulars. Sometimes I really miss living in Nevada.

Yea, the laws here suck on not recognizing other states' permits, and it also has the effect of not having many states recognize our permits.
You can get a visitor permit but you must take the class here and then wait 4 short months for your permit. Or so they say - I applied 6/2 and didn't get mine until well into October.
As to open carry, it is legal here but not advised in Vegas. I don't think you'd get far before getting Metro called on you. But it is legal. :)
Weapons are also legal in vehicles, loaded or not and concealed or not - no permit required.

Valkman,
You know, it's amazing how the Clark County Sheriff takes the full 120 days to issue a resident permit, while the Washoe County Sheriff issues a resident permit the same day you apply. It shows the different political attitudes between the northern and southern parts of the State.
I applied for a nonresident permit at the Washoe County Sheriff's Office on 10-15 and they make nonresidents wait until the whole investigation is completed.
