DALLAS -- Two Dallas police officers are recovering after being shot in an apparent overnight drug raid.

Officials say the officers were shot during a drug investigation at the London Manor apartments in the 9800 block of Webb Chapel in north Dallas. One officer was shot in the arm and the head, the other officer was shot in the arm and chest.

Police took two people into custody but have made no arrests.

Authorities are also searching for one man who they say fled the scene.

A county official says the officers are in serious condition but expected to recover. The officers are currently being treated at Parkland Hospital.

It is not known whether the officers were in uniform or if they were undercover.

I still hold respect for the large majority of the rank and file Dallas PD-but bad leadership leads to bad things. I'm glad to see the former chief gone. Now, if the mayor can be voted out....

I have been trying to get his procrastinating butt outta there for a long time now. He calls me a couple of months ago and said somebody was trying to break in through his bedroom window at 4 AM. Tells me he reached for his .40 Cougar, chambered a round and shouted to the window that he is armed. Just great-now the bad guy knows he has pistols and all they have to do is watch his place to determine when he is at work.

I don't live in Dallas proper so I am only an interested bystander, but that is exactly what some in the black community are trying to do in protest over Bolton's firing.

Didn't the sheetrock incident - in which many of Mexican decent were framed by the Dallas PD - happen under Kirk's mayorship?

A 18-year-old Dallas man was being held Wednesday on two charges of attempted capital murder after police say he fired a shotgun blast that sent two Dallas officers to Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Manuel Gonzales Jr. was being held on $1 million bail at Lew Sterrett Justice Center on suspicion of shooting Senior Cpls. Lance T. Crawford, 37, and Jeffery Scott Eggleston, 38. Both men were listed in fair condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital, police said Wednesday.

Mr. Gonzales has two prior convictions, one for felony drug possession for which he was sentenced earlier this year to six months in jail, and a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated conviction in 2002, according to Dallas County officials.

At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, the officers were with three others investigating suspected drug activity at the Chase Place Apartments in the 9800 block of Webb Chapel Road.

Officer Richard S. Martinez, who was uniformed, saw heavy foot traffic at a ground floor apartment, according to a police report. The team of officers went to the apartment and knocked on the door. Someone opened it, then abruptly shut it, catching Cpl. Crawford’s hand.

The officers then forced their way into the apartment. Police say someone then fired a sawed-off shotgun in the officers’ direction.

Cpl. Eggleston had injuries to his chest and a few pellets in his face, police said. Cpl. Crawford was shot in the arm and also had some facial injuries.

One of the officers was in full uniform, and one was wearing a jacket that identified him as an officer, police said. A .410 shotgun was found at the scene, police said.

The shooter and two other people in the apartment attempted to escape, but were quickly captured. Mr. Gonzales later “admitted that he shot at the officers, and he gave a voluntary written statement admitting that he was the only one that fired the shotgun,” the police report stated. The officers fired no shots, police said.

Colleagues from the Northwest Operations Division, where the injured officers are stationed, and beyond kept a steady vigil at Parkland Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

“They are in good shape,” said Senior Cpl. Eddie Crawford, a vice president of the Dallas Police Association who trained both officers.

Cpl. Lance Crawford is a 15-year veteran. Cpl. Eggleston joined the force 14 years ago.

“They both realize it could be a lot worse. They are very hard working, very good officers,” Cpl. Eddie Crawford said.

The officers then forced their way into the apartment. I'm not sure what this implies about the circumstances, but that goes by the wayside compared to the fact that:

1. They were uniformed and identifiable.
2. They were seen.
3. THEN this swine shot them.

I hope they recover swiftly and fully; I hope that the court deals severely with Gonzales.
